The Ogun state police command says its operatives have arested three suspects, including a former security guard, over the murder of a former Ogun State Television broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday.

The police boss said the arrests followed intensive intelligence gathering, technical tracking operations and forensic analysis conducted by detectives investigating the double murder.

Oyesiku and Adetayo were found dead at the retired broadcaster’s residence in the Owode-Egba area of Ogun State on June 21, while her Lexus RX 330 vehicle was reported missing from the premises.

According to Ojajuni, a report was received at Owode-Egba Police Station at about 4 pm on June 21 concerning suspicious circumstances at Oyesiku’s residence.

“Preliminary information indicated that the front door of the residence had been partially damaged while the security house within the compound was found locked, prompting immediate police intervention,” Ojajuni said.

He explained that detectives who responded to the scene discovered Adetayo’s lifeless body inside the security house, while Oyesiku was found lying in a pool of blood in the living room of the main building.

“The crime scene was scientifically processed. Preliminary investigation further revealed that a Lexus RX 330 vehicle belonging to the deceased was missing from the compound, raising suspicion of robbery and murder,” he added.

The police boss stated that the missing vehicle was recovered on June 22 through intelligence-led and technical tracking operations.

Ojajuni revealed that a handwritten note recovered from the crime scene played a crucial role in the investigation.

“Although the ignition key had been removed and the registration number plates detached from the vehicle, detectives recovered the vehicle’s registration plate concealed underneath one of the seats, which enabled investigators to positively identify and confirm the vehicle as the property of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku.

“One critical piece of evidence recovered from the scene was a handwritten note apparently left behind by the perpetrators. The note was subjected to forensic examination and analysis, which generated valuable investigative leads that significantly aided detectives in identifying and tracing those responsible for the crime,” he stated.

According to him, further intelligence gathering led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.

The police commissioner added that subsequent operations led to the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.

Ojajuni disclosed that Philip confessed to the crime and admitted recruiting the two other suspects.

He said, “Further follow-up operations by detectives of the command led to the successful arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and Sobu Obafunsho, thereby bringing into custody all identified suspects directly linked to the criminal conspiracy.

“During interrogation, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip made a confessional statement, admitting his involvement in the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku. He further disclosed that he had recruited Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and Sobu Obafunsho to participate in the crime.”

According to the police commissioner, the suspect told investigators that he planned the attack over grievances stemming from the period he worked as a security guard for the deceased.

“The suspect stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was intended to ‘teach her a lesson,” Ojajuni added.

He said the suspects carried out the attack on June 20, first overpowering Adetayo and using him to gain access to the residence.

“According to the statement, they first overpowered the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, and used him to gain access to the residence. Upon gaining entry, they attacked Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and subsequently murdered the security guard.

“After committing the crime, the suspects fled the scene with the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 vehicle, which was later recovered through intelligence-led and technical tracking operations at the Onikolobo area of Ogun State,” the CP said.

The commissioner further disclosed that detectives recovered several exhibits linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a black pen.

“Following the suspects’ confessional statements, detectives conducted further searches at locations linked to them. During the operation, a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen and other relevant exhibits connected to the investigation were recovered,” he said.

Ojajuni stressed that although the suspects had made useful statements and substantial evidence had been recovered, investigations were still ongoing.

“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to emphasise that while the suspects have made useful statements and substantial evidence has been recovered in the course of the investigation, all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law.

“Investigation is ongoing to consolidate all available evidence and ensure diligent prosecution of all suspects connected with the crime,” he added.

The police boss assured residents that the command remained committed to ensuring justice for the victims and bringing all persons connected with the killings to book.

NDLEA uncovers industrial-scale meth lab in Oyo forest, arrests Mexican, four Nigerians

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered a large-scale clandestine methamphetamine production facility hidden in a forest in Oyo state.

The agency said the laboratory, located in Tapa village, Ibarapa-north LGA, was discovered during a raid conducted by its tactical operatives on June 17.

Methamphetamine is a central nervous system stimulant that is primarily used as a recreational or performance-enhancing drug.

NDLEA chairman, Buba Marwa, described the facility as a sophisticated operation run by a transnational drug syndicate seeking to establish a synthetic drug manufacturing base in the south-west region.

Represented by Femi Babafemi, the agency’s director of media and advocacy, during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Marwa said the five suspects, including a Mexican national allegedly recruited to oversee the operation, were arrested.

The suspects were identified as Jose Villa Ochoa, 56-year-old Mexican methamphetamine specialist, and four Nigerians — Maxwell Uche Nevoh, 30; Olatunji Yusuf, 37; Bankole Akeem Owolabi, 45; and Ganiu Monsiu, 43.

According to him, Ochoa was brought into the country to provide technical expertise for the large-scale production of methamphetamine, while the Nigerian suspects handled logistics and local operations.

“This was not a rudimentary setup; it was a sophisticated, highly organized transnational syndicate,” Marwa said.

He added that the arrest of a foreign expert highlighted the international dimension of the illicit drug trade and demonstrated the agency’s intelligence-gathering capabilities.

Following the raid, a team from the agency’s directorate of forensic and chemical monitoring conducted an examination of the facility.

“What they uncovered is a massive, factory-level production line of poison,” Marwa said.

“The laboratory was fully stocked with a frightening array of precursor chemicals, industrial catalysts, and heavy-duty processing equipment.

“Chemicals and Materials recovered include: Phenyl-2-propanone (P2P), which is the the main, highly controlled precursor required for methamphetamine synthesis; 1800-litre drums containing Phenylacetic acid (the primary precursor used to synthesize P2P); Two 180L drums containing a staggering 300 litres of whitish crystalline substance; Four 180L drums containing dark liquid undergoing synthesis.

“Others include: 101 bags (25kg each) of Caustic Soda; 17 containers (25L each) of Sulphuric Acid; 19.5 containers (25kg each) of Tartaric Acid; 5 containers of Reniso Ultracool 68 (three 50L and two 25L capacity; 25 bottles (500ml each) of 80% Thioglycolic Acid; 2 containers (25L each) of Ethyl Phenylacetate, and 25 cartons of aluminum foil.

“The Industrial Processing Equipment discovered at the site include: One (1) Reactor Pot, which is the heart of the chemical synthesis; Two (2) mounted distillation units and three (3) fabricated mixers and condensers; as well as Two (2) vegetable dehydrator machines used for the rapid drying of the crystals.

“This is yet another multibillion-naira worth of illicit substances and production equipment ready to push millions of doses of synthetic drugs into our streets, communities and the international community but for the vigilance of our dedicated officers.”

Marwa said field tests conducted by NDLEA forensic experts confirmed the presence of methamphetamine among substances recovered from the site.

“Every single gram of these exhibits has been safely evacuated, documented, and preserved for comprehensive and strict evidential presentation in court,” he added.

The discovery comes less than a month after NDLEA dismantled another major methamphetamine laboratory concealed in a forest in Ijebu-east LGA of Osun.

The NDLEA boss said the discovery suggested an attempt by drug trafficking networks to establish a synthetic drug manufacturing corridor in the south-west.

“The proximity of this latest discovery to the Ogun State lab uncovered about four weeks ago reveals a desperate attempt by drug barons to establish a synthetic drug manufacturing hub in the Southwest axis,” he said.

He warned drug cartels operating within and outside Nigeria that the agency would continue to target their operations.

“Let the message go out clearly to all drug cartels, domestic and international, that Nigeria is not, and will never be, a safe haven for your illicit trade. We will find you in the cities, we will track you into the forests, and we will dismantle your infrastructure of death,” he added.

He also commended officers of the NDLEA Oyo state command involved in the operation and urged the public to continue providing credible information to support the agency’s anti-drug efforts.

Operatives of the Gombe state police command have recovered a Toyota Highlander that was reported stolen in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, five years ago.

The vehicle was recovered on June 8, 2026, during a routine operation.

According to the Gombe Police Command Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi, officials from the State Intelligence Department (SID) were working in synergy with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service’s licensing office.

While conducting standard vehicle data verification and uploads, the joint team flagged a Toyota Highlander (Registration Number: FH823PHC) as suspicious.

Preliminary investigations identified the owner of the vehicle as Cecilia A. Duru, a resident of Akwaka Lane, Rumuodumaya, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The vehicle had been reported stolen on September 17, 2021. Following the recovery, detectives traced the vehicle’s extensive trail across the country and beyond.

Records indicate the SUV was moved into the Niger Republic in 2023. It later returned to Nigeria on October 17, 2025, entering through the Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The Gombe State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation to track down the individuals responsible for the theft and the subsequent illegal trafficking of the vehicle.

“Investigation is ongoing, as efforts are being intensified to identify and apprehend those involved,” DSP Abdullahi stated in a press release issued on June 20, 2026.

The Command utilized the recovery as an opportunity to remind the public to exercise high levels of caution when purchasing vehicles. Citizens are strongly urged to perform due diligence by verifying ownership documents and official vehicle records through the appropriate authorities before finalising any transactions.

The agency said Orji, a pensioner, was arrested after he was caught supplying illicit drugs to students of Saint Silas Secondary School, Old Umuahia.

“In his case, Pa Orji, who is a pensioner and also into the illicit drug trade, was nabbed by security guards at Saint Silas Secondary School, Old Umuahia, for supplying illicit drugs to two teenage students in the school.
