1. The Peoples Democratic Party’s state chairmen have split over the National Convention of the party scheduled for today (Sunday) in Abuja.
The convention is being organised by the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Speaking with Sunday PUNCH, the Chairman of the PDP in Edo State who also doubles as the Chairman of the Forum of PDP State Chairmen, Tony Aziegbemi, said the convention should not hold in view of the pending case before the Supreme Court.
2. Senior Special Assistant on Citizenship and Leadership to the President, Nasir Bala Aminu,yesterday resigned his appointment to enable him seek nomination for the 2027 election into the House of Representatives. His resignation is in compliance with the March 17, 2026 memo from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF),Senator George Akume,in which he advised all political appointees in the Tinubu administration who intend to contest elective offices in the forthcoming 2027 general elections to resign their appointments on or before March 31.
3. Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have announced the deaths of at least 38 suspected ISWAP terrorists who attacked a military base in Mandaragirau village of Biu Local Government Area of Borno State in the early hours of Saturday. The Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, said the troops decisively defeated a multi-front attack by the terrorists on its Forward Operating Base.
4. The Kwankwasiyya Movement has directed its members to join the African Democratic Congress, ADC. In a statement on Saturday, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, spokesperson of the Movement, said Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, National Leader of Kwankwasiya, has concluded plans to join the coalition seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu.
5. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, on Saturday paid a condolence visit to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, following the death of his mother. Yilwatda visited El-Rufai at his Abuja residence to sympathise with him over the passing of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who died on Friday, March 27, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt, after a period of illness.
6. The All Progressives Congress has dismissed as fake a report circulating in the media on the purported prices of expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 general elections. The ruling party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said in a statement on Saturday that the report did not emanate from the party.
7. The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed ₦19.7 million to 217 students of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) under the Federal Government’s student loan scheme for the 2024/2025 academic session. The fund said the disbursement, which forms part of the third batch of payments, is aimed at supporting students in tertiary institutions to meet their educational expenses
8. A fire outbreak in the early hours of Saturday affected a six-room bungalow at Danialu Alapata Compound in the Gaa Akabi area of Ilorin, Kwara State..The incident occurred at about 2:11 a.m., and was contained by operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service, preventing further spread.
9. Operatives of the Plateau State Police Command have arrested several armed robbery suspects, including informants linked to bandits, and recovered three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles along with other dangerous weapons. The arrests and recoveries were made during recent intelligence-led operations, the police in the state said.
10. A former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, and a stalwart of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday, hosted a former Governor of Kano State and ex-presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Abuja. Atiku, in a post via his official X handle, said that Kwankwaso was on a courtesy visit and they both had a robust discussion on the state of the country.
