1. Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, including some aggrieved governors, are considering their options ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with some party stakeholders reportedly weighing support for alternative presidential candidates amid concerns over the political activities of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Sources within the APC, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to comment on the matter, said many party leaders, including some governors, regarded Wike as a potential threat to President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
2. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and other petroleum marketers have reduced the prices of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) across major depots in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Calabar and Warri, following a decline in international crude oil prices. The reductions were recorded in the latest depot price report published by Petroleumprice.ng, with the biggest adjustments seen in Lagos, where several operators cut their petrol prices by between N20 and N24 per litre
3. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated legendary musician, Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, popularly known as King Sunny Ade (KSA), on yesterday’s celebration of his 80th birthday. The President said KSA’s extraordinary career transformed juju music into a globally recognised Nigerian cultural treasure. He described the music icon as one of Africa’s most celebrated entertainers whose talent and innovation have projected Nigeria’s cultural heritage across the world and inspired generations of musicians.
4. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of lying about the alleged N50 billion funding from the Federal Government for the upgrade of the Ibadan International Airport. Wike, on Monday, claimed that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration supported the Oyo State Government with N50 billion for the airport project, but Makinde denied the claim.
5. A man identified simply as Tosin has reportedly been killed by suspected cultists after he was allegedly robbed in the Egbin area of Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos State. It was learnt on Tuesday that the incident occurred on September 15, after Tosin travelled from Ondo State to attend an event in the community. According to a source, Tosin briefly stepped out of the venue while the event was ongoing, when he was allegedly accosted and attacked by some hoodlums.
6. The Anambra State Government has challenged former governor Peter Obi to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race, citing what it described as inconsistencies between his campaign pledges and allegations over debts and workers’ salary arrears left by his administration.
The state’s New Media Office raised the issue in a post on its official X account on Tuesday, asking: “When will Peter Obi quit presidential campaign?”
7. Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued six female students of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, and their commercial driver after they were abducted along the Daye–Malumfashi Road in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State. The victims were abducted after armed assailants attacked a commercial vehicle travelling from Kaduna to Katsina on Monday.
8. Iran’s mid-level officials and delegation walked out of the United Nations General Assembly after United States President Donald Trump threatened on Tuesday to “annihilate” Iran if Tehran fails to reach a deal with Washington, while declaring at the United Nations General Assembly that Cuba’s communist government was failing and “will fall”. Trump made the remarks in a combative address to the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, where he defended the United States’ failing months-long military campaign against Iran and warned that he could escalate the conflict rather than accept a settlement that allows Tehran to recover.
9. An independent 10-member panel has been inaugurated to investigate the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State. The panel was inaugurated on Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in Abuja, following a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the incident.
10. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday charged chairmen of the 774 local government areas to ensure that their councils do not become breeding grounds for political violence as the country moves towards the 2027 general election. The President asked the council chairmen to adopt zero tolerance for political thuggery, intimidation, hate speech and violence, warning them against allowing young Nigerians to be recruited for electoral violence.
