India-bound businessman who sold off ₦23m business arrested with cocaine at Lagos airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says its operatives have arrested a 48-year-old businessman, Nwankwo Onyebuchi, with 1.550kg of cocaine concealed in the walls and railings of his luggage at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

According to Babafemi, Onyebuchi, who deals in marbles in Lagos, was arrested at the departure hall of Terminal II of the airport while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to New Delhi, India.

According to him, a search of the suspect’s check-in bag uncovered 1.550kg of cocaine factory-fitted into its walls and railings.

The suspect reportedly confessed that he had sold his marble business and other assets to raise N23m to purchase the consignment, which he expected to sell in India for up to N100m.

Babafemi said, “In a candid confession that lays bare the desperation that fuels the drug trade, Nwankwo said he had sold off his marble business and every asset he owned to raise the ₦23 million he paid for the consignment, with the expectation of selling it in India for as much as N100 million.”

The NDLEA spokesman added that the suspect remained in custody awaiting prosecution.

Police arrest 10 suspected ritualists with human heart, skull in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command says its operatives have arrested ten suspected ritualists with human parts in Iseyin and Saki areas of the state.

According to the police, the arrest followed several months of sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance and close monitoring of their activities.

The police listed the suspects to include Adam Ibrahim, 42; Nasiru Kabiru, 22; Tijani Wasiu, 54; Abiola Nasiru, 45; Amusa Gbadamosi, 57; Raheem Taofeek, 46; Jimoh Muritala, 35; Suleiman Busari, 47; Ganiyu Nurudeen, 36; and Usman Abdullahi, 52.

Following their arrest, operatives conducted searches of the suspects’ hideouts, during which several suspected human parts were recovered. The exhibits include one suspected human heart, human flesh, pieces of human skull and assorted charms.

“The recovered items have been secured for forensic examination and further investigation. In the course of the investigation, the suspects confessed to their various involvement in dealing in human parts for different ritual purposes and are currently assisting investigators in unravelling the circumstances surrounding the source, procurement and intended use of the recovered human parts. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the syndicate,” said a statement from the police on Saturday.

In view of the progress recorded in the investigation, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the operatives for their painstaking intelligence-led operation.

He assured members of the public that the Command remains resolute in its determination to rid the State of criminal elements and protect the sanctity of human life.

The Commissioner further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide the Command with credible information that could assist in preventing and detecting criminal activities across the State.

Ghana police kill two suspects, arrest one during attempted bank robbery

The Ghana Police Service says its operatives arrested a suspected member of a robbery syndicate and killed two others in a foiled attempt to rob three banks in Labone, Accra.

The police disclosed this in a statement posted on its X handle on Thursday.

The arrested suspect was identified as Augustine Maazi.

According to the police statement, an intelligence report was received at about 10:45am on August 13, 2026, that a gang was preparing to attack GCB Bank, Ecobank and Zenith Bank, all located in Labone.

“A police team was immediately deployed to Labone where the gang members were spotted in their vehicles parked close to the banks.

“Upon sighting the police, one of the vehicle sped of in an attempt to escape.

“The police gave them a chase and arrested suspect Augustine Okechuku Maazi. The other occupant however managed to escape.

“The robbers in the second vehicle also tried to escape amidst firing.

“The police engaged them in a shoot out resulting in the death of two suspects,” the statement said.

The police said they recovered two vehicles — a Toyota Highlander with registration number GS-1434-18 and a Hyundai Tucson with registration number GS 7915-17 — as well as a blow pistol.

“Suspect Augustine Okechuku Maazi is in custody assisting the investigation while the bodies of the deceased suspects have been deposited at the morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy,” the statement added.

The Ghana Police Service commended the response team for foiling the planned robbery attempt.

It urged members of the public to continue to share credible information on criminal activities.

Five killed as rival cult gangs clash in Osun

At least five persons were reportedly shot dead between Monday night and early hours of Tuesday following gun clashes between rival cult gangs in Ilesa, Osun State.

According to reports, the clash which  began at about 8:00 p.m around Imo, was between suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities in Imo area of Ilesa township.

As a result of the incident, three persons, identified simply as Idowu, Yinka and Eja, were reportedly shot dead.

The reports added that reprisal attacks around Boluwaduro area on Wednesday, reportedly led to the killing of another two individuals suspected to be cultists.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Osun Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, in a statement, said the Commissioner of Police in charge of the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election, CP Samuel Erale Etaifo, had directed the deployment of operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to the area to prevent further escalation, apprehend those responsible and restore calm.

Ojelabi disclosed that four expended cartridges and two Android mobile phones were recovered from the scene, while preliminary investigations have commenced.

“The Command is also working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify all persons connected with the clash.

“The CP Election has directed the VCRU operatives and other tactical teams to intensify patrols, surveillance and intelligence-led operations within Ilesa and adjoining areas, particularly around identified flashpoints, to forestall any reprisal attack.”

On the killing in Boluwaduro area, Ojelabi stated, “We are aware of that incident. So far two people are dead and two people are severely injured. We are suspecting it to be a reprisal attack from what happened yesterday.”

He added that investigation was ongoing, and further developments will be communicated to the public.
