1. Former governor of Ogun State and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, recounted the political rivalry that once existed between him and his successor in office, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, saying that he went through hell under what he described as his “enfant terrible successor.”
Daniel said that at the centre of the political differences was the fact that Amosun was in a hurry to become governor, adding that there was nothing anyone, including himself, could do to stop his dream.
2. The Federal Government has proposed N135.22bn in the 2026 budget for what it described as “Electoral Adjudication and Post Election Provision,” pointing to a fresh multi-billion-naira commitment to managing disputes and obligations that typically trail Nigeria’s elections. The provision was contained in the House of Representatives Order Paper for March 31, 2026, which carried the report on the 2026 Appropriation Bill, as seen by The PUNCH on Monday.
3. The Presidency has warned the former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi, against unfairly targeting President Bola Tinubu over the ongoing crisis in the African Democratic Congress, ADC. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser of the president on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
4. The only male child of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Yusuf (Talban Daura), has indicated interest in running for the House of Representatives seat in the 2027 poll.
This was contained in a letter which he personally signed, as obtained by The PUNCH on Monday. The letter, dated 3rd April 2026, is titled: “Expression of interest to contest for the seat of House of Representatives Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency.”
5. The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has released footage from a July 2025 event at Abuja’s Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, showing Nafiu Bala attending the unveiling of David Mark as the party’s interim national chairman. The video showed INEC representatives were present at the event, and Bala was seen seated near key figures, including Senator Ishaku Abbo.
6. The federal government has dismissed reports suggesting the cancellation of Nigeria’s Visa-on-Arrival (VOA) policy, clarifying that the system has instead been upgraded to enhance efficiency. Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made this known after a closed-door meeting with a delegation from the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council in Abuja.
7. A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, has described the renewed violence and killings in Plateau State as politically motivated. In a statement he made available to journalists on Monday, Zazzaga, who is also Chairman of the North-Central All Progressives Congress, APC, Forum, said the killings are aimed at derailing the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, and discrediting Plateau State Governor Caleb Muftwang.
8. The Nigeria Police said seven kidnapped victims from the attack in Ariko Village near Gurara Dam on Easter Sunday have been rescued. A statement signed by DCP Anthony Okon, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, said that during the operation, the team led by DIG Nadada, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services, DSS, rescued seven kidnapped victims.
9. The number of people killed in the early Saturday attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Agena community in Mbalom, Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State, has increased to 11 after two additional bodies were found in the area. Providing an update on Monday, a community mobiliser and leader, Christopher Gbasha, who joined the search efforts, stated that “two more corpses have been discovered in the village to add to the number deposited in the mortuary, so we have 11 deaths now.
10. Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled a cross-border fuel smuggling attempt. They also arrested 16 suspected terrorists in sustained offensive operations across the North-East Theatre. In its operational report made available to yesterday, the Nigerian Army explained that troops of 3 Battalion (Mechanised), acting on intelligence, intercepted 19 jerrycans of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and two carts in Gamboru/Ngala Ngala Local Government Area of Borno near the Nigeria–Cameroon border.
