1. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday asked the National Assembly to approve a N9.09tn increase in the 2026 budget. The government plans to finance the budget increase through crude oil gains linked to the Unites States-Iran conflict and by securing new loans
The Tinubu’s request, which signals a significant adjustment to the fiscal framework for the coming year, was conveyed in a letter read on the Senate floor by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, during plenary on Tuesday.
2. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) from traffic control and enforcement duties across the state. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, stated that the directive was part of efforts to streamline traffic management operations and ensure professionalism and accountability.
3. The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the freezing of funds and assets valued at N448,263,172.41 in a debt recovery action filed by Keystone Bank Limited against five defendants.
The order, granted on March 26, 2026, followed an ex parte application filed and argued by Mofesomo Tayo-Oyetibo (SAN) against Relic Resources, Olufunmilayo Emmanuella Alabi, Uwadiale Donald Agenmonmen, The Magnificent Multi Services Limited, and Raedial Farms Limited.
4. Nigeria’s total debt stock is set to rise to N155.1 trillion, following an additional $6 billion loan request by President Bola Tinubu, hurriedly approved by the Senate on Tuesday. The $6 billion loan at an exchange rate of N1,400 per dollar, adds N8.4 trillion to the country’s debt stock which stood at N146.69 trillion at the end of 2025, to N155.1 trillion.
5. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has indicated plans to defect to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, saying the party has the potential to unseat the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC in 2027. The governor made this known shortly after a closed-door meeting with a delegation of the National Chairman of the ADC led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal.
6. African Democratic Party, ADC, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of putting pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to interfere in its internal affairs, saying there was coordinated effort to destabilise the party following the defection of Rabiu Kwankwaso. The party warned that what was happening raised serious concerns about whether Nigeria’s electoral body could remain independent.
7. Malam Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, has been returned to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Commission, ICPC. The former governor, who left custody on March 27, 2026, following the death of his mother, was re-arraigned earlier on Tuesday.

President Bola Tinubu has told security agencies to be proactive in preventing attacks taking place in different parts of the country, especially in the north, condemning the attacks by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba district, Jos, Plateau State. He equally condemned the attacks in Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
9. The Defence Headquarters has placed troops on nationwide alert ahead of the Easter celebrations, assuring Nigerians of tightened security. The DHQ also reaffirmed that ongoing support from the United States is strengthening counter-terrorism operations, with a visible impact expected in the coming weeks.

Brent crude jumped to $118.2 per barrel yesterday while WTI rose to $102.5, leaving an unusually wide gap between the two benchmarks as the market reacted to fresh rhetoric around the Strait of Hormuz and the growing risk to fuel flows outside the United States. The rise was triggered by a social media post from President Donald Trump urging countries struggling to secure jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz disruption to buy from the U.S. or go to the Strait and “take it” themselves.
