1.Political parties in the country have 91 days (May 30) to conduct and finalise primaries that will produce candidates following the release of a revised timetable for the 2027 elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
INEC on Thursday released the revised timetable for the 2027 general elections. With the new arrangement, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now take place on January 16, while the governorship and state assembly elections will be held on February 6.
2. Former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, was removed from office by President Bola Tinubu over his reported resistance to the President’s directive to withdraw police officers from Very Important Personalities protection duties, Saturday PUNCH has learnt.
According to multiple highly placed officials in the Presidency and the police establishment with first-hand knowledge of events that unfolded between Monday evening and Tuesday, the former IG was also compelled to resign over his alleged opposition to state policing and vindictive conducts towards colleagues.
3. A Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, on Friday, ordered the remand of the former Attorney-General of the Federation, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami back to Kuje Correctional Centre. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik sent Malami alongside his wife, Hajia Bashir Asabe and their son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, back to the facilities, pending the determination of their bail applications.
4. President Bola Tinubu, on Friday, hosted Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting sparked a lot of reactions because it held hours after Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, leaving Mohammed as the lone PDP governor in the entire North East region
5. Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has finally joined the All Progressives Congress, APC. Fintiri picked up membership card of the APC at K/Wuro Ngayandi Ward in Madagali Local Government Area of the State, on Friday.
6. An Anambra State High Court sitting in Awka has sentenced detained native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwaokuko Tiwara Aki, to 12 years imprisonment. The presiding judge, Justice Jude Obiora, found Nwangwu guilty on counts 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, sentencing him to two years on each count. The court, however, struck out counts 1, 2, 9, and 10.
7. National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, on Friday said Nigeria’s economy sustained its recovery momentum in the fourth quarter of 2025, with real Gross Domestic Product, GDP expanding by 4.07 per cent year-on-year, driven largely by continued growth in the services sector and improved oil output.
8. Residents of Ila-Orangun in Osun State abandoned their homes after four teenagers allegedly wrote the words “Bandit Today Today” on a residential building, triggering fear of a possible attack. The inscription appeared on a house wall in the Ajegunle area, causing widespread panic among the community, according to reports gathered by The Nation.

The African Democratic Congress, ADC has rejected the revised 2026–2027 electoral timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, alleging that it contains “boobytraps” designed to exclude opposition parties and pave the way for President Bola Tinubu’s unopposed return in the 2027 general elections.
10. The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday, fixed March 18 for ruling in the trial-within-trial being conducted in the money laundering case involving Ali Bello, the Chief of Staff, CoS to Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi and a co-defendant, Mr Dauda Suleiman. Justice James Omotosho fixed the date after lawyers to parties made their final submissions and adopted the final written addresses in the trial-within-trial.
