1. A former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has been granted permission by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform the 2026 lesser Hajj.
In granting the application, Justice Emeka Nwite ordered that Bello’s international passport, which has been in the custody of the court, be temporarily released to him

6. The Youth Leader of the Tinubu/Shettima campaign organisation in Zamfara State, Bashir Isa Gusau, has been abducted by gunmen suspected to be bandits. The incident was made public on Thursday by a security analyst, Bakatsine, in a post shared on social media.According to the post, Gusau was abducted in the presence of his wife, throwing his family into distress.

8. A Lagos-based couple, identified simply as Fred and Goodness, have been arrested for allegedly staging their own kidnap and extorting N10m in ransom from their families and friends. It was learnt that the couple faked the abduction on January 7 to solicit funds for the husband, who intended to return to the United States due to a lack of financial support.

The Katsina State Police Command on Thursday announced the arrest of two suspected gunrunners and the recovery of 305 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition along the Zaria–Funtua highway in Katsina State. It was learnt from the command that the suspects, Shu’aibu Musa, also known as Abba, aged 30, and Ahmed Sani, aged 27, were arrested on January 27, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m. during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation by police operatives.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has resumed enforcement of the ban on the production and sale of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and small plastic or glass bottles below 200 millilitres.
