Yahaya Bello dances with Ododo at Kogi palace

Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi, was at the centre of a celebration at the palace of Ohinoi of Ebiraland when he showed some dance steps.

The former governor and his successor, Usman Ododo, who flanked the traditional ruler, were seen in a viral video dancing to a song chorused by a group of men.

“God, we thank you for what you have done for us,” they sang in the Ebira dialect.

Bello is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the alleged criminal breach of trust to the tune of N110,446,470,089, contrary to sections 96 and 311 of the Penal Code Law Cap.89, Laws of Northern Nigeria, 1963.

Bello and his co-defendants—Umar Shoaib Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu—were arraigned on November 27 before the federal capital territory (FCT) court on a 16-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering to the tune of N110 billion.

On December 10, Maryann Anenih, the presiding judge, adjourned the case to January 29 and 30 and February 25 and 27 after declining Bello’s bail request because the application was filed prematurely.

He was remanded in the Kuje correctional facility.

However, on December 20, the former governor regained freedom after meeting bail conditions.

An FCT high court in Maitama had granted him bail to the sum of N500 million.

Anenih held that the defendant must produce three sureties in like sum who must be responsible citizens of Nigeria.

The sureties must have landed properties within the Guzape, Wuse 2, Apo, Asokoro, and Jabi areas in the FCT.

They are to submit two passport photographs each and other means of identification, like the national identification number (NIN).

In a world where birthdays are often marked by glittering parties and exclusive guest lists, Zaynab Otiti Obanor chose a different path—one paved with compassion, empathy and an uncommon milk of human kindness.

For Zaynab, philanthropy is not a seasonal obligation or a public relations gesture; it is a way of life. True to her enduring spirit of generosity, she marked her birthday not with chandeliers and champagne, but with open arms and a giving heart—celebrating with the needy, the forgotten and the vulnerable.

From distributing food items and essential supplies to sharing warm embraces and reassuring words, she turned what could have been a private celebration into a communal blessing. For many beneficiaries, her presence was more precious than the gifts she brought. She did not merely give; she connected. She listened. She cared.

Those who know her say this is vintage Zaynab—graceful yet grounded, elegant yet empathetic. A woman who understands that true royalty is not defined by status but by service. In her quiet but impactful way, she continues to demonstrate that the greatest wealth one can possess is a generous spirit.
