A 30-second video clip showing the final moments of a former reality TV star, Patrick Fakoya, aka Rico Swavey, at a hospital in Lagos State, has attracted condemnation from members of the public.
In the clip recorded by one of the nurses attending to Rico Swavey, the deceased was placed on oxygen as he was unconscious on a chair.
It was observed that the nurses were attempting to carry him on a bed when the nurse brought out a phone and started recording him.
Another nurse was heard cautioning her colleague against the act.
“You people should stop making the video; somebody is dying, you people are making video,” the nurse said.
Reacting to the video, a marketing strategist, Samuel Atigba, condemned the action of the nurses.
Using his verified Twitter handle, @SamuelOtigba, he wrote, “Anytime I watch that video of the nurses joking, laughing and making needless videos of Rico for social media instead of giving him the necessary urgent attention needed to save his life, my heart breaks over again cause he could have survived. RIP Rico.”
A director, Egai Eti, wrote, “This hospital should be closed and the license of those nurses should be seized.”
The reality TV star was involved in an accident on Tuesday.
A fellow ex-housemate in Big Brother Naija Season 3, Alex Asogwa, who shared the news on her Twitter page on Tuesday, said doctors were trying to resuscitate him.
Rico Swavey, however, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.
The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the state government had commenced investigation.
He said, “That hospital is not a government hospital; we have started an investigation into the unprofessional conducts of those who appeared in that video.”

Men of the Lagos Police Command, on Sunday, arrested 10 suspected Yoruba Nation agitators over unlawful assembly.
The police also dismantled a protest camp set up by the agitators at Alausa in Ikeja ahead of the planned nationwide anti-Buhari disturbance, billed to commence February 6.
A flier with notice of the protest surfaced on the social media calling on all Nigerians against the lingering cash crunch and fuel scarcity to join the “Buhari Must Go” protest in all major cities.
Although unsigned, the information was greeted by mixed reactions, with those against it accusing the government of plans to stop the general elections billed to hold in two weeks.
It was gathered that the agitators had stormed Alausa with cooking wares, tents, generators, bread and other food items in order to set up their base there.
According to police sources, there were intelligence reports that the group planned to use the location as their base from where they would lunch massive protest and ground activities in the state.
But security operatives were swiftly deployed and the camp was dismantled.
Confirming the incident, spokesman for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said that 10 of the suspects were arrested and we’re currently being interrogated.
He said the command would not condone any form of lawlessness anywhere in the state.
Warning against any form of violence, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said it was clear that miscreants with criminal agenda were those behind the looting and other crimes being committed ij the guise of protest against fuel and naira scarcity.
He said: “We condemn the violent protests we have recorded so far. It’s crystal clear that these were orchestrated by hoodlums who had their targets of robbing banks’ ATM, looting shopping malls, shops, stealing from persons, etc, not peaceful protest as claimed.
“How does protest against fuel and naira scarcity affect innocent drivers, sellers, market women, and even the police, who were victims of attacks from the so-called “peaceful” protesters? In ibadan, they went to set ablaze a station, for what?
“Anyway, we will not allow any lawlessness or breakdown of law and order in any part of the country. No way. So, we want to urge well-meaning Nigerians to be patient, law abiding, and maintain decorum in whatever they do so that the long arm of the won’t catch them. Thanks.”

The Police in Ogun, on Sunday, said they arrested a man, Michael Ogundele, for allegedly shooting his younger sister’s boyfriend and injuring him in the Idiroko area of the state.
The Police Spokesperson in the State, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, made this known in a statement issued to newsmen in Ota, Ogun.
Oyeyemi explained that the suspect, 30, was arrested on Feb. 2 by the operative of Ogun State Command for allegedly shooting and injuring one Tobi Olabisi, for having a love affair with his sister.
The PPRO said that the suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Idiroko Divisional Headquarters by one Alpha Akeem, a community leader in Ihunbo town.
He added that Akeem came to the police station with the injured victim (Olabisi) and reported that the suspect who had been warning the victim to stop having a love affair with his younger sister, fired a gunshot at him, but fortunately the victim narrowly escaped death.
“Upon the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Idiroko Division, CSP Ayo Akinsowon, quickly mobilized his detectives to go after the suspect and he was subsequently arrested.
“During interrogation, the suspect claimed to have warned the victim to desist from dating his younger sister but he refused, so on that fateful day, he got information that the victim was sleeping in his sister’s room and he went there with a Dane gun.
“On getting there, the victim jumped out from the window to escape the likely consequence when he was shot by the suspect,” he said.
Oyeyemi said that the victim was quickly rushed to General Hospital, Idiroko, Ogun, where he is currently responding to treatment.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
