The councillor representing Ward F in Surulere Local Government, Lagos State, Ajibola Ajala, allegedly beat the ward chairman of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, to stuppor for failing to give him a share of rice sent to the ward by party leaders.

The councillor, it was gathered, descended on the party chairman over allegation that he (chairman) had denied him his own share from bags of rice given to the ward by leaders of the party.

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonimity, told The Post that the councillor left the chairman, Ishola Ali soaked in his own blood after he found out that he had been left out of the largesse sent to the their ward by party leaders.

“The councillor was angry becuase the chairman did not allocate any of the bags of rice sent to the ward to hi,. He accosted him and dealt two heavy punches on his face,” the eyewitness said.

He said further: “Hon. Ajibola Ajala launched the attack on the allegation that the APC leadership in the ward often remove his name from the list of beneficiaries whenever gifts come from federal and state lawmakers representing the council area. He said he too was entitled whatever was sent to the council by party leaders.”

Trouble, however started during a leaders’ forum meeting, held at 26 Aralile Street in Surulere, when the councillor was granted permission to speak and address the leaders. He was said to have demanded to know how the rice and other palliatives allocated to the ward were shared among members.

It was while the chairman was responding to the questions raised by the councillor that he allegedly descended on him with blows to the face.

A party member, who was at the meeting, disclosed that the meeting ended abruptly as the chairman was rescued and rushed to a hospital for treatment.

“It was the councilor who reacted first with a blow when the chairman said that people should always be fair in whatever they do,” the eyewitness said.

Meanwhile, source from the council area said a committe has been set up to investigate the fracas.
