Embattled Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, who is presently battling to redeem her battered image following leaked sex tape scandal, may be on the verge of losing some endorsements as the scandal continues to reverberate on social media.

After a long period of waiting, the social media went haywire on Wedsneday following the release of a sex-tape allegedly involving the singer and her boyfriend.

Though Tiwa is yet to confirm or deny whether she is the one captured in the video, she had earlier in an interview with American OAP, Angie Martinez of Power 105.1, raised the alarm that she was being blackmailed by an unknown person with a sex tape

She had expressed concerns about what the blackmailer could do with the clip, even as she claimed that the video was accidentally posted on Snapchat by her lover, who immediately deleted it.

Although she maintained that she would not pay a dime to the blackmailer, Tiwa feared that the intimate clip could negatively affect her career and public image.

Some Nigerians who doubted the singer opined that the alleged sex tape ‘scandal was a publicity stunt for her now released remix of ‘Somebody’s son” ft Brandy.

But Tiwa Savage stated that those saying it was a publicity stunt were merely disappointed that she was able to control the narrative and not allow the ‘blackmailer’ destroy her.

However, Tiwa’s alleged sex tape was eventually released. The blackmailer released the tape in the dead of Tuesday night and by morning, it had already taken over every gossip corner.

Fans were stunned when the singer’s intimate moment with her lover was seen. The girl in the sex tape had a striking resemblance to the ‘Koroba crooner, many argued.

With the social media space in a frenzy, Tiwa who seemed not bothered showed off the diamond encrusted wristwatch she purchased.

Although it is not confirmed if the woman in the viral video is Tiwa Savage or if the released clip was that which the 41- year-old spoke of, the singer has remained mute on the issue.

Many have condemned the blackmailer for releasing the footage while other chide the songstress who is not a stranger to controversies for being careless.

Condemning the actions, some Nigerians said the clip was released because she bragged about ‘controlling the narrative.

Looking at the negative effect of the matter on the artiste, a PR expert said that although, the entertainment industry has been engulfed with several controversies involving many other artistes, one that is sex related threatens an artist’s career and public image.

“The industry is filled with several scandals; from domestic violence to rumored infidelity or rumored extra-marital affairs, but when a sex tape of an artist is released, it is a huge blow.

“It takes months, sometimes years to correct the damage such clip can cause. Sex tape damage control is a herculean task. Most endorsement deals come with moral clauses that give the company the right to exit the contract if a celebrity lands in trouble, as such could tarnish their reputation.”

Amid the backlash, some celebrities like Harrysong, Nedu, Mercy Aigbe, IK Ogbonna, Tacha Akide and BBNaija’s Angel Smith have drummed support for the singer. They heaped accolades and encouraged her.

Former Big Brother Naija, BBNaija season 6 housemate, Angel Smith has joined the support train for Tiwa Savage. The equally controversial Angel asked Nigerians to stop ‘victim blaming’ Tiwa Savage over the leaked sex tape.

Angel in a thread on her Twitter page said the blame should be on the person who decided to leak the sex tape and not the fact that Tiwa Savage decided to record the act.

Stating that leaking of nudes is a criminal offense, Angel hoped that one of those responsible for such act be made to face the law soon.

Her tweets read: “ The problem will never be the fact that someone made a sex tape or that someone took a picture naked, the problem will always lie with the person that decided to leak it. Stop victim blaming.

“Leaking someone’s nudes is a criminal offense. I hope one of you becomes a scapegoat.”

Responding to those criticising Tiwa Savage for recording the sex tape, Angel said the attention should be diverted to the person who shared the video.

“No matter how many times people tell others not to record themselves, they still will and that’s okay. Divert this attention to people who think it’s okay that people should be punished for their own choices,” Angel wrote.

Veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru dies at 57

Veteran Nigerian actor, Francis Duru, has died at the age of 57.

The actor’s family announced the news of his passing on his official Instagram page in the early hours of Friday, revealing that he died following a brief illness.

“We, the family of Francis Duru, regret to announce his passing following a brief illness,” the post reads.

“We appreciate your prayers, love, and understanding. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”

Earlier in June, the actor denied viral reports claiming he was battling a life-threatening illness.

The rumours gained traction after footage showing him in a frail condition circulated widely on social media, raising concern among fans and colleagues.

In response, Duru shared an Instagram video describing the footage as “fabricated and malicious”.

Duru was born on July 27, 1969, in Cameroon, to parents of Nigerian origin from Imo state. He completed his primary and secondary education in Cameroon before relocating to Nigeria to pursue a university degree.

He gained admission to the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers state, where he studied Theatre Arts and earned a B.A. degree in 1996.

He made his entry into the Nigerian film industry in 1989 with a movie titled ‘Missing Mark,’ directed by the late Ndubuisi Oko.

His appearance in the film did little to advance his career at the time, as he was still considered an up-and-coming actor.

He gained greater recognition in the industry in 1995 after appearing in ‘Rattlesnake,’ an action-comedy produced by the late Amaka Igwe. Duru played a notable role in the film as the character Ahanna.

Over the course of his career, Duru received numerous awards and honours for his work. He was named a United Nations ambassador of peace in recognition of his positive influence on young people. In 2020, he won the :Best Actor in a Leading Role (Igbo)’ award at the Best of Nollywood Awards for his performance in ‘Mboputa’.

Duru married his wife Adokiye in 2003, and the couple had four children together. They lost Ifeanyi, one of their children, in August 2024.

Olu Jacobs laid to rest in Lagos

Family, friends and colleagues gathered for the funeral service of veteran actor Olu Jacobs on Friday, as his remains were laid to rest at the This Present House Church, Lekki, Lagos.

The service was witnessed by members of the entertainment industry and other dignitaries, who came to pay their last respects to the late thespian.

Among those who paid their respect was entertainment entrepreneur, Darey Art Alade, who performed his hit song Pray For Me, featuring Olu Jacobs and his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva.

The actor’s son, Olugbenga Jacobs, also presented his father’s biography during the funeral proceedings.

The burial follows a Night of Tributes held on Wednesday at Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos Island, where Nollywood stars and well-wishers gathered to honour the late icon.

Jacobs died on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84.
