How Andy Uba secretly tie the knot with Nnenna Ukeje

Published

Following years and years of denial, Maverick Senator Andy Uba has finally come out clean to make Nnenna Ukeje his legal wife.

According to sources, Uba and Ukeje, a former House of Representatives member, recently made up their minds to exchange their vows and rings at a private ceremony.

Only a few family members were invited to the solemnization of the decade-long relationship recently. And they have been living together happily ever after with their child.

A three-term legislator, Nnenna, whose mother is a retired High Court Judge, was first elected in 2007 as the Representative for Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State, and she served as the House committee chairman on Foreign Affairs.

Brilliant and beautiful, Nnenna would later catch the eye of a colleague in the hallowed chambers with whom they also enjoyed a robust relationship before Senator Andy Uba reportedly came into the picture and swept her off her feet.

Nnenna’s fourth bid for the House was halted after losing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election to a young businessman, Chima Anyaso.

Her paramour, Dr Uba, was a U.S-based medical doctor who returned home to serve as the powerful Special Assistant on Special Duties and Domestic Affairs to President Olusegun Obasanjo. In 2007, Andy contested for the governorship of Anambra State and won but was ousted after 17days due to a court ruling that Peter Obi, earlier sworn in as governor after the ouster of Governor Chris Ngige, was the substantive governor. Andy returned in 2010 on the claims of being a governor-in-waiting but was overruled by the court again. Andy would later win the Anambra South Senatorial seat in 2011 and re-elected in 2015.

In the build-up to the 2015 general elections, the Uba family unanimously agreed that Andy should vacate the Senate seat for his younger brother, the controversial Chris Uba, while he contested for the governorship election a year earlier. Andy reportedly agreed, but after losing out at the primaries, he breached the family agreement and insisted on vying for the Senate seat.

Despite entreaties by senior family members to respect the earlier agreement, Andy stood his ground, which led to a division within the family. Chris went ahead to fly the PDP flag in the senatorial election while Andy represented the APC. They both lost the election to Ifeanyi Ubah, the rambunctious millionaire owner of Capital Oil who contested the election on the platform of the virtually unknown Young Progressive Party, YPP.
With both husband and wife losing their elections, it only made sense for them not to lose their love for each other. Andy is still gearing up to contest for the governorship election of Anambra State scheduled for November 2021.

Now, the attention is shiting to who becomes his First Lady if by chance Andy wins the election. Would it be Gloria Obiageli, his first wife? Or the Abuja based Pastor Faith Vedelago that allegedly delivered a baby for him around 2008? Perhaps he is likely to consider Nnenna who understands the political terrain like the back of her palm and has the visage, vivacity and vibrancy of a First Lady. Fingers remain crossed.

Minister to sue Niger speaker over plans to ‘marry off’ 100 girls, says it’s ‘totally unacceptable’

Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, minister of women affairs, has petitioned the inspector-general of police (IGP) and sought a court injunction to halt the marriage of 100 girls in Niger state.

Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, speaker of the Niger state house of assembly, announced last week that he would sponsor the wedding of 100 girls, some of whom were orphaned by insurgency, as part of his Maringa constituency project.

He said he had procured materials for the event scheduled for May 24, and promised to pay dowries for the bridegrooms.

Following the outcry that trailed the announcement, the speaker explained that he was only financing the wedding — not forcing the girls into marriage.

However, Kennedy-Ohanenye said the plan is unacceptable, and that the future of the girls should be a priority.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday, the minister said a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the issue will be carried out.

She said the ministry will take responsibility for the girls’ education and vocational training.

“I want to let the honorable speaker of house in Niger state know that this is totally unacceptable by Federal Minister Of Women Affairs and by the government,” Kennedy-Ohanenye said.

“Because there is something called the Child’s Right Act and I said it from the onset, that is no more business as usual.

“These children must be considered, their future must be considered, the future of the children to come out of their marriage must be considered.

“So I have gone to court. I have written him a letter and written a petition to the IG of police.

“And I have filed for injunction to stop him from whatever he is planning to do on the 24th, until a thorough investigation is carried out on those girls, find out whether they gave their consent, their ages, find out the people marrying them.

“As the speaker did not think about empowering these women or sending them to school or giving them some kind of training support financially.

“The women affairs have decided to take it up and we are going to educate the children.

“Those that do not want to go to school, we will train them in a skill, empower them with sustainable empowerment machines to enable that child build his or her life and make up her mind who and when to get married.

“If for any reason the speaker tries to do contrary to what I have just mentioned, there will be a serious legal battle between him and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.”

The minister added that based on the Child Rights Act, every child belongs to the state, hence the rights of every child will be protected from harm and violence.
