WAR IN THE HOUSE OF MOVIE: Iyabo Ojo attacks Funke Akindele for allegedly sponsoring damaging review of Toyin Abraham’s movie

A fresh war is brewing among Yoruba actresses. Actress Iyabo Ojo’s allegation that her colleague, Funke Akindele allegedly paid a review platform to discredit a new movie by Toyin Abraham, is already generating heat and serious concerns among stakeholders.

According to reports, Abraham’s new movie ‘Ghost and the tout too’, which premiered in the cinemas on Friday, September 10, was reviewed by a platform which specialises in reviewing movies – Cinema Pointer.

The A-list cast in the movie include Osas Ighodaro, Mercy Johnson Okojie, Iyabo Ojo and Destiny Etiko among others.

But while reviewing the movie, CinemaPointer, ranked Akindele’s ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’ above Abraham’s new film.

It described Abraham’s movie as “a haplessly brain-dead story”.

In an Instagram post, @cinemapointer, wrote: “Not recommended for intelligent people. Over the years, we have told you many truths but non-greater than this: Intelligent minds were not taken into consideration at all in the writing and in the making of ‘Ghost and The Tout Too’. Thusly, intelligent minds will not enjoy it at all,” it wrote in its review of Abraham’s movie.

It added: “Regardless of how flagrantly it copycats off ‘Ómó Ghetto: The Saga’ desperately hoping to shine like it. Unlike that one ‘The Ghost and The Tout Too’ doesn’t understand that movie-making is rooted in brain-work and not in using cinema to do ‘Yahoo’,abusing stardoms to fleece fandoms.

“Sadly, in ‘The Ghost and The Tout Too’, celebrity after celebrity only lead to leprotic performance after leprotic performance.

“As a haplessly brain-dead story leads to pointless scene after pointless scene, all soaked together in a deluge of sterile dialogue. So much so that trying to find any mirth seeing it would be an exercise in futility.

“Trust us, if you are intelligent, you are better off staying back home this weekend to watch ‘Ómó Ghetto: The Saga’ which incidentally opens on Netflix this Friday, 10th of September 2021. If not, brain go pain you tire.”

To many, the review by @cinemapointer was a deliberate attempt, not only to undermine Toyin Abraham’s movie, but to destroy the artistic efforts of the actress.

And reacting, Ojo said: “How much did Funke pay you to write this rubbish? The day she begins to find ways not to talk bad about her fellow colleagues or try to discredit their hard work or personality, that day she will begin to experience inner peace.

“Na social media you go dey form better person. I know you and you know me, we know ourselves wella and you @cinemapointer go back and tell your sender that no matter how many times you try to pull Toyin down of discredit her works, it won’t work.

“Toyin’s hard work and movie Ghost and The Tout Too’ will make box office and your blood gonna dry from hate and jealousy…I said what I said messenger of doom.”

But Ojo’s comment has generated mixed reactions from fans.

Responding @cinemapointer denied being paid for the review, it said: “We don’t sell reviews. We tell the Truth.”
