WE’LL MOVE IJEBU EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA FORWARD

Published

on

In this piece to his people, the chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Party in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, Wale Adedayo, an award-winning journalist and highly-respected fellow, highlighted his plans for his people and why he is the best man for the job of moving the local government area to the next level:

I firmly believe that Ijebu East Local Government Area can be transformed for the social, economic and political benefits of our people within a very short time. This is achievable if an administration with vision and a commitment to serve is elected into office.

This is why I have offered to serve as an elected Chairman of our dear Local Government Area.

Currently, a lot of our people live outside the local government area because job opportunities are hard to come by. Many of our communities have lost the cream of their children to Lagos, Ibadan, Abeokuta and Ijebu Ode among others. Crucially, they are unwilling to return to a place where life still remains as it was almost 50 years ago.

Our young people need jobs. A lot of middle-age people are also out of jobs and have no skill or necessary financial support to be self-employed.

The old (65 years and above) have challenges they should not be facing at this stage of their life. Our dodgy healthcare delivery system makes their situation worse. The dire situation is further compounded by insecurity of lives and properties. These are issues that an Administration with a vision and commitment to serve should be able to sort out within a very limited time.

I have the vision. I have the commitment. And, God willing, our firm resolve will deliver a complete transformation of Ijebu East Local Government Area within the shortest possible time.

Ijebu East Local Government Area, to me, is the richest among the 20 local councils in Ogun State for an Administration with a vision and commitment about how to transform potentials into realities. We are blessed with a network of rivers and streams that make every part of our local government area naturally fertile, thus making Agriculture the Number One occupation of our people.

Our fishermen are among the most active along Nigeria’s coastal waters, which we share with Ondo and Lagos states.

We are blessed with other resources, including granite and bitumen. There is hardly any wild animal native to Africa that cannot be found in Ajebandele, the location of the richest forest reserve in Ogun State, giving us quality eco-tourism potentials.

Traditional festivals, a primary ingredient of tourism, are a regular feature of life in this part of Ogun State.

Our people are very brave, being hunters apart from their traditional occupation of farming. But it is saddening that armed robbers have ensured that financial institutions run away from our local government area. Kidnappers are now running rampant. We believe that security is a service our people can provide and also benefit from if the right Administration is in office.

By occupying the longest portion along the Shagamu-Benin Expressway, we are strategically positioned to provide mutually beneficial services to thousands of persons headed towards the South-East and South-South on a daily basis, thereby turning that stretch of land into commercial centres, where our people can realise their economic potentials without any fear of insecurity.

The challenges facing Ijebu East Local Government Area and its residents are enormous. Our answers to these challenges are encapsulated in these Five Pillars:

1. Investments: Multinational industries/corporations; Small & Medium Scale Enterprises; Agro-Allied initiatives (livestock & processing of agricultural produce).

2. Health: Primary Healthcare Centres; General Hospitals (Ogbere and Ijebu Ife); and encouraging Community Health Workers’ return to regularly visit every nook and cranny of the local government.

3. Education: Pre & Primary Education; Secondary Education; Vocational Traning; and Higher Education.

4. Infrastructure: Potable water; Roads; Electricity.

5. Security: Police; DSS; Military; Local militia/Vigilantes/Amotekun

Our guiding light for the Five Pillars above will be:

1. Free Primary Education in every sense of the word, including free lunch for all pupils.

2. Free healthcare services (Pregnancy – 18 years and 65 years – above)

3. Development of Agriculture through mechanised farming and Agro-Allied Industries.

4. Development of Infrastructure, with special attention on Ajebandele, Imobi and Ogbere.

5. Employment Generation and Empowerment towards self-employment.

6. Monthly allowance for the aged (65 years – above).

7. Regular financial and logistics support for ALL traditional festivals as an all-purpose vehicle to promote tourism.

Be assured that I am proudly an Afenifere, who believes that we must make our society better than we met it. The Afenifere spirit is the basis of my several interventions in the lives of many in Ijebu East Local Government since December 2004, when I returned home till date.

Your support, for me, to emerge as the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship candidate in this local government area is very crucial to bring to life for our people the eternal words in the first stanza of the Afenifere Anthem:

“Tis a duty that we owe

To our dear great motherland

To enhance her

And to boost her

In the eyes of all the world.”

With Olodumare on our side, it is a new dawn in Ijebu East Local Government!

No political crisis in Rivers, says Fubara

Published

By

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed any notion of political crisis in the oil-rich state, saying his administration has provided focused leadership and governance to the people.

Fubara, who received members of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions at Government House in Port Harcourt on Saturday, said his goal for the Rivers people was delivering good governance.

The governor explained how the pressure from the unwarranted political crisis served as an enabler to strengthen his commitment to service that is now impacting lives positively.

“As far as we are concerned, there are no political issues. I had seen a movie many years ago, entitled, ‘Devil’s Advocate.’ I believe some of you must have seen that movie too,” he stated.

“One of the starring characters: Al Pacino said, that pressure makes some people retreat or fail, and to others, it makes them become focused on succeeding. We have chosen to be focused under this pressure.

“That is why we are moving ahead. That is why we are making a positive impact on the lives of our people. Governance is about the people. It is not about self.

“Governance is about touching the core needs of those people we are leading, and by the special grace of God, we are doing it.”

Strained Relationship

Rivers State has been embroiled in crisis after a strained relationship between Governor Fubara and his erstwhile political godfather and former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike.

Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), currently serves as a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister under President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

At the height of the crisis last year, 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly dumped the PDP for the APC. The lawmakers, led by the Speaker, are loyal to Wike and accused Governor Fubara of starving them of funds.

The lawmakers have also been having a strained relationship with the governor and attempted to impeach him in the heat of the political crisis in the state before President Bola Tinubu intervened and invited the feuding parties to Abuja which gave birth to an eight-point resolution.

Agboola Ajayi, a former deputy governor of Ondo, has been declared the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primary election in the state.

Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the deputy governor of Bayelsa, who chaired the electoral committee that supervised the poll, announced the results on Thursday in Akure, the state capital.

Ewhrudjakpo said Ajayi scored 264 votes to defeat other aspirants.

“By virtue of the results, Ajayi Alfred Agboola having scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner of this primary and hereby declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the November 2024 election and is hereby returned as the candidate,” he said.

Ajayi was the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the 2020 governorship election and also served as deputy governor of Ondo state from 2017 to 2021.

Kolade Akinjo, who came second in the election scored 157 votes while Olusola Ebiseni polled 99 votes to clinch the third position.

On June 21, 2020, Ajayi, a lawyer and businessman, resigned his membership from the ruling party All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the PDP.

He cited irreconcilable differences between him and his principal, the late Rotimi Akeredolu, the former governor of Ondo.

He then joined ZLP after losing the PDP gubernatorial primary to Eyitayo Jegede and became the candidate of the party in 2020.

Ajayi had served as a councillor, chairman of Ese-Odo LGA, and house of representatives member before he was nominated by the late Akeredolu as his deputy in 2016.

BREAKING: Emeka Ihedioha dumps PDP

Published

on

By

Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, ex-deputy speaker, House of Representatives, CON, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, a party he says he has been associated with since its inception in 1998.

Ihedioha, who ascribed himself as one of the founding members of the PDP, cited the party’s inability to carry out internal reforms and provide credible opposition as the reasons behind his decision.

In a statement on Tuesday titled “Resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party,” Ihedioha reflected on his long-standing commitment to the party’s development and transformation.

He stated, “Since 1998, I have contributed my quota to the development and transformation of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as one of the founding members. All these years, I have taken pride in the fact that the PDP is a party that will always look inward for internal reforms and provide credible leadership for the people, whether in power or outside power.”

However, Ihedioha expressed his disappointment with the party’s recent trajectory, which he believes deviates from his personal beliefs.

He said, “Regrettably, in recent times, the party has taken on a path that is at variance with my personal beliefs. Despite my attempt to offer counsel, the party is, sadly, no longer able to carry out internal reforms, enforce its own rules or offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress.”

Acknowledging the difficulty of his decision, Ihedioha emphasised the necessity of taking this step.

“It is in the light of the foregoing, that I am compelled to offer my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party effective immediately. While this decision was difficult to take, I, however, believe that it is the right one,” he stated.

Despite his resignation, Ihedioha affirmed his commitment to contributing to the nation’s democratic process and good governance.

“Despite this resignation, I will always be available to offer my services towards the deepening of democracy and good governance in Nigeria,” he declared.
