Police arrest fake CP, lawyer, female drug seller, others in Lagos

The Lagos State police command, on Monday, paraded a fake Commissioner of Police (CP), fake lawyer and 10 others at the Command headquarters for engaging in various crimes, including armed robbery, unlawful possession of controlled substance, impersonation and others.

Spokesperson for the Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, who paraded the suspects on behalf of the Commissioner of Police (CP), Idowu Owohunwa, said the police recovered four firearms, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, 11 live ammunition, one vehicle, two wrist-watches, six phones, some quantity of weed, a walkie-talkie, police warrant card, and camouflage cap with singlet.

He said: “On September 2, at about 4:40.p.m, Nwagu Emmanuel visited a police station and introduced himself as Commissioner of Police. He was fully regarded as such, but upon questioning, he was discovered to be an impersonator. A search was conducted in his house and various items were recovered.

“Also, on September 4, following a complaint from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Epe Branch, against Ibrahim Bello, who has been conducting and presenting himself as a lawyer for several years, operatives of the Command arrested the suspect in a court. He was brought in for questioning and was discovered to be an impersonator.”

The police also paraded 40-year-old Ganiyat Oni, who was arrested on September 10, at about 1:00 p.m. in the Igbogbo area of Ikorodu for being in possession of large quantities of weed suspected to be hard drugs, including 97 ‘colos’, 22 wraps of loud, some mixture of loud and Arizona, and a sum of N271, 600 realised from the sales as at the time of arrest.

Also paraded was a 38-year-old Bamishe Omotayo, for allegedly stealing a Volvo car from where it was parked at Eredo axis of Epe, Lagos State, on September 9. The vehicle was recovered along Lagos- Ibadan expressway where the suspect was arrested, and his cohorts fled upon sighting the police.

Hundeyin also paraded 34-year-old Saheeed Jeleel, and 34-year-old Kazeem Jimoh, who were arrested on September 5, while allegedly robbing a pharmacy within Ojokoro area of Lagos State.

He said following a complaint from a victim of an ongoing robbery around Iba area of Lagos State, operatives of the Command mobilised and arrested four suspects. One locally made pistol and an iPhone 6 was recovered from them.

“The Lagos State Commissioner of Police has warned that there is no hiding place for criminals in the state. Anyone in the act should repent and face the wrath of the law,” he added.

Police arrest woman for trafficking 16-year-old secondary school girl to Libya

Operatives of the Ogun state police command have arrested a middle-aged woman, Abike Olonade, for trafficking a 16-year-old student to Libya.

It was reliably gathered that the victim, whose name is yet to be disclosed, is a student of Adeoye Lambo Secondary School in Obada Oko, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Confirming the arrest, the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, in a statement in Abeokuta, on Saturday, said the suspect confessed to trafficking the victim to Libya.

 

She said, “One Abike Olonade has been arrested for trafficking 16 year old student of Ademoye Lambo Secondary School in Obada Oko, Ogun State.

 

“She confessed that the victim has been trafficked to Libya.”

Ajayi Crowther varsity guards arrested for raping female student

The management of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State, on Saturday, announced the arrest of two members of its vigilante group for allegedly raping a female student of the institution.

 

The management, in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Olufemi Atoyebi, said the university had set up its own internal panel of inquiry to investigate the allegation.

 

Atoyebi said the suspects have been handed over to the police with a vow to ensure heavy penalty on anyone found culpable after a thorough investigation.

 

He, therefore, assured all stakeholders that the institution would not tolerate any act of misconduct capable of tarnishing its enviable image.

The statement read in part, “Management of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo received with shock a report of alleged rape of one of our female students on Thursday, May 9, 2024, by two members of our vigilance group.

 

“The management promptly handed over to the police, the two people alleged to have committed the crime while the university has set up its own internal panel of inquiry to investigate the allegation.

JUST IN: XeJet Airlines plane skids off Lagos airport runway

A XeJet Airlines plane, On Saturday, veered off the runway at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) in Lagos.

 

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.

 

The bureau said the aircraft, which departed Abuja, skidded off runway 18L on landing in Lagos — making a halt on “the grass verge.”

 

According to the agency, about 52 passengers were on board the ill-fated aircraft, with the call sign 5NBZZ.

 

“NSIB confirms that an aircraft belonging to Xejet airlines skidded off the runway at the domestic wing of Murtala Muhammed Airport this morning. A go team has been deployed to the site of the incident,” the statement reads.

 

“Fire and Rescue on ground to help in evacuation of the passengers.”

 

The bureau said the runway has been closed to traffic at the moment.
