Protest video: Davido calls Yomi Fabiyi ‘mumu’

Multiple award-winning singer Davido has reacted to the recent viral video of Nollywood actor, Yomi Fabiyi protesting over the continued detention of his colleague Baba Ijesha.

Recall that Nollywood actor, Yomi Fabiyi had called on the police to release his colleague, Olanrewaju Omiyinka aka Baba Ijesha, who was accused of molesting a minor.

He demanded the release of Baba Ijesha from detention before Wednesday, May 12th, 2021 following which he will mobilise Nigerians for a protest.

Fabiyi, who has been supportive of Baba Ijesha, said on his Instagram page that the continuous detention of the actor without trial is a violation of his human rights.

Fabiyi led a protest at Panti against the detention of his colleague, Baba Ijesha, who was accused of molesting a minor.

During the protest, Fabiyi, accompanied by other protesters marched from Casino bus stop to Panti Police Station.

They demanded Baba Ijesha should be released from detention pending when a court would hear his case.

The protesters were seen carrying placards and banners with different inscriptions such as ‘denial of bail of bail of bailable offence is human rights violation’, ‘Nigeria police, please allow the law to dictate to you, not Iyabo Ojo, Princess and co’, ‘release Baba Ijesha’, and ‘Nigeria police must respect human rights and honour bail for bailable offence’.

But the 30BG boss, who has been enjoying encomiums from notable personalities, colleagues and fans alike on hitting a decade on stage, reacted to Yomi’s protest video via his social media account.

“Omo Baba Olowo” crooner while reacting to the video, called Yomi a stupid fellow, noting that he was the only one not wearing a mask among the protesters.

Davido tweeted Yomi Fabiyi’s protest video with accompanying words that read: “Notice he is the only one without a mask .. mumu.”

Tweeps have also reacted to the video, affirming Davido’s claim about Yomi Fabiyi.

@Dovelay22 tweeted: “Mumu of the highest order!! He’s trying to prove a rubbish point. Can he still carry placard if that little girl is his daughter, Oluya bi machine obioma!!!!”

Good morning! Here Are Some Major News Headlines In The Newspapers Today: Ekiti varsity expels two students for assault on colleague in viral video

1. The authorities of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti, have expelled two female students for bullying a colleague. The development followed the outcry that trailed the video of two female students assaulting another female student of the institution on social media.

 

2. The Federal Government, on Tuesday, offered 12 oil blocks and five deep offshore assets for sale as it marketed the assets to global oil sector investors at the ongoing 2024 Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, United States. Chief Executive, Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission, Gbenga Komolafe, told investors at the gathering that Nigeria has 37.5 billion barrels of crude oil and condensate reserves and 209.26 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves.

 

3. The Department of State Services, DSS, has reportedly arrested Mukaila Lamidi, the embattled chairman of the Oyo State Park Management System, popularly known as Auxiliary. It was gathered that Auxiliary was arrested at about 4:00 pm on Tuesday at his residence in the Olodo area of Ibadan, the state capital.

4. Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday reportedly arrested some Bureau De Change operators at the popular Wuse Zone 4 market. It was also gathered that some BDC operators resisted arrest during the sting operation.

 

5. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is probing 10 senior officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps over an alleged N7.5bn fraud. The anti-graft agency has also invited 10 contractors linked with the alleged fraud. EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, had on April 26, 2024, written a letter to the NSCDC CG, inviting the 10 indicted NSCDC officers for questioning.

 

6. Multichoice Nigeria has challenged the jurisdiction of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal sitting in Abuja restraining it from increasing the prices of its DStv and GOtv packages. Multichoice’s lawyer, Moyosore Onigbanjo, said he filed an application on April 30 challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal to make the order it made on April 29.

7. Nigeria and other West African countries battling terrorism will receive support from a standby force to be formed by the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS. ECOWAS Commissioner in charge of Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah, broke the news in Abuja on Tuesday.

 

8. The opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has directed its members in the House of Assembly to immediately commence impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminialayi Fubara. The party warned that it would invoke its rules against its lawmakers in the House if they failed to comply with the directive.

 

9. Those living in flood-prone communities should start relocating now, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has counselled. The agency also called for the monitoring of dams, desilting and clearing of debris in water bodies by relevant authorities to prevent blockages and the creation of detention dams.

 

10. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, yesterday cautioned Nigerians against panic buying of petrol. NNPC said it has 1.5 billion litres of the product which if spread at 50 million litres daily would last the nation one full month.

Ekiti LG chairman swears in advisers, supervisors with cutlass

Olu Adamolekun, chairman of Ikere-Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State, has sworn in his advisers and supervisors of wards in the LGA with a cutlass.

 

In a video making the rounds on social media on Tuesday, the appointees are seen taking turns wielding a cutlass (a totem believed to be for the god of iron) in one hand and either Quran or Bible in the other.

 

Ògún is a deity in African (Yoruba) traditional religion. It is often regarded as the “god of iron.”

 

The swearing-in ceremony coordinated by Adamolekun took place on May 2 at the chairman’s office’s conference hall.

While administering the oath, Adamolekun of the All Progressives Congress asked the appointees to repeat the following in Yoruba, “From today, I will be loyal and truthful to BAO (Ekiti State governor), and Monisade (deputy governor), APC and its leaders.

 

“I will take instructions from the leaders. If I refuse to do so, Ogun or the Quran should kill me. For this, I will be truthful,.”

Speaking, the LG boss congratulated the newly sworn-in supervisors and advisers while urging them to see their appointment as a call to service.

 

He further charged them to be guided by the document of the oath of swearing-in and discharge their duties diligently and accordingly.

 

The supervisors were identified as Femi Ayeni representing Are/Aramomi/Ayetoro Ward, Olu Ogundipe (Okeruku Ward), Idowu Ojo Omowumi (Atiba/Aafin Ward), and Ajayi Mathew Oladele (Ogbonjana Ward).

 

Others are Sola Alonge of Odose Ward, Boluwaji Daramola (llapetu/ljao Ward), Toyin Owolabi (Agbado/Oyo Ward), Akojiyan Olamilekan Rasaq (Oke Osun Ward) and Filani Motunrayo (Afao/Kajola Ward) sworn in as advisers.

 

Before this video surfaced, political officeholders usually swear an oath of office using the Quran or Bible while pledging allegiance to the country’s Constitution.

BREAKING: Ladoja withdraws suit against Olubadan-in-Council

The Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rasidi Ladoja, on Tuesday, finally withdrew the suit filed against members of Olubadan-in-Council.

 

High Chief Ladoja instituted a suit against the members of the Council over the beaded crown worn before the demise of the late 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun.

 

The coast is now clear for the enthronement of the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
