Security operatives fired teargas at participants who had gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos to
mark the sixth anniversary of the #EndSARS protests on Tuesday.
The procession was organised by the Enough is Enough (EiE) movement.
Among the participants were the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidates in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and Funso Doherty.
But the security operatives on ground fired tear gas as everyone scampered for safety before the wreaths could be laid.
According to the Lagos state judicial panel of inquiry’s report on the Lekki incident of October 20, 2020, nine people were confirmed dead, while four others were listed as missing and presumed dead.
The organisers said they had arrived at the venue with 15 wreaths including one for Pelumi Onifade, the journalist who was shot dead during the anti-police brutality protests.
