1. President Bola Tinubu on Thursday declared that the harshest phase of his economic reforms was over, telling Nigerians in his Independence Day broadcast that the country has moved from an “age of reform” into an “age of prosperity,” while issuing a pointed warning against politicians pushing for a return to fuel subsidies ahead of the 2027 general election.

Marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary, Tinubu used the nationwide address themed “From Reform to Prosperity”  to defend the removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of the naira exchange rate, likening the country to a cancer patient who chose painful treatment over the “morphine” of denial administered by his predecessors

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has warned that the state will not provide a safe haven for criminals or for those seeking to arm individuals for political violence, declaring that offenders will face the full weight of the law. Oborevwori made the remarks on Wednesday when he received the newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel Erale, who paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Asaba.

3. The self-styled Director-General of the alleged “non-existent” Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, PFIPC, Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi was on Wednesday arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja. Adeyemi, who has been in detention since July 14, when he was arrested on the strength of a bench warrant issued by the court, was docked on an eight-count charge relating to forgery, fraud and impersonation.

4. The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu has approved a petition by the family of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, seeking a fresh and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The family disclosed this through its lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, in a statement dated September 29, 2026, clarifying that the police re-investigation was ongoing despite the recent dismissal of a suit by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

5. For undisclosed reason(s), the General Court Martial on the alleged coup plot involving some military officers has again shifted the ruling on the admissibility of the accused persons’ statements to October 5, 2026. Presided over by Air Vice Marshal Hassan Alhaji, the court postponed for the fourth time the ruling on the contentious evidence, which was earlier scheduled for yesterday

6. Unknown assailants on Wednesday reportedly murdered Igbu Job Terhemen, Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Fiidi Council Ward, Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State. Terhemen was said to have been attacked by suspected hoodlums, who allegedly tied him with ropes, injected him with substances suspected to be poisonous, and abandoned him near his residence around the NNPC depot along the Makurdi-Otukpo Road.

7. The Vice-Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has told leaders of the opposition party that many of them will be retired from politics if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is re-elected. Amaechi said this while addressing the ADC National Women’s League Conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

8. The Federal Government has ruled out a return to the petrol subsidy regime, insisting that the reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu were necessary to save Nigeria from imminent collapse. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, made the declaration on Wednesday in Abuja at the 66th Independence Anniversary Lecture.


9. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike on Wednesday vowed to resign from the Federal Executive Council if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election in the FCT and Rivers State. Wike made the declaration during an engagement with leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja.

10. The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, and other coalition leaders have reportedly held a closed-door meeting with former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in Abuja. The meeting, held at Atiku’s Abuja residence on Tuesday night, was attended by members of his campaign council as the opposition coalition intensifies consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
