A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday ordered that alleged fake Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, be remanded in Kuje prison.

Justice Mohammed Umar, in a ruling, ordered that Adeniyi remain in prison pending the hearing and determination of his bail application.

The judge’s order came shortly after Adeniyi pleaded not guilty to an eight-count charge of conspiracy and forgery brought against him and two others, Femi (surname unknown) and Anu (surname unknown), who are now at large.

During the court proceedings, Rotimi Oyedepo, the director of public prosecutions, told the court that attorney-general of the federation (AGF) directed him to take over the case from the police.

Oyedepo asked the court to remand Adeyemi in prison custody.

But Genesis Francis, counsel to Adeyemi, informed the court that his client had filed a bail application since January.

Recall that Adeyemi has been in police custody since he was arrested in Osun state on July 14.

A federal high court in Abuja had earlier ordered his arrest after he failed to honour the court’s summons.

Adeyemi was the mastermind of the fictitious PFIPC that operated like a government agency, receiving an allocation in the 2026 budget, occupying an office at the federal secretariat and also recruiting staff, without any legal standing or presidential declaration.

President Bola Tinubu later ordered the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the PFIPC scandal.
