Terrorists have reportedly killed a yet-to-be-ascertained number of people and kidnapped several others in an attack on a mosque during Friday prayers in Niger state.
According to reports, the victims were kidnapped from worship place when terrorists, in a large number, struck while Jumu’at prayer was ongoing.
Eye witnesses said the terrorists shot sporadically before assembling some of the worshippers and leading them out of the mosque into the forest.
Residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Borgu local government area recorded various incidents on insecurity, on Friday
“Soon after finishing the normal Friday prayer, the armed group of Lakuwara, in their hundreds, wielding guns, knives and machetes, began to attack us,” said Jibril Ahmad, who survived the attack on Dikera village, in the Borgu local government area,” a resident said.
“They slaughtered some of our people, saying we are not practising the true teachings of Islam.”
Police in Niger state said they were aware of the kidnapping, but had not received reports of anyone killed.
