1. Political parties and presidential and National Assembly candidates on Tuesday signed the first National Peace Accord on issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, pledging to shun violence, hate speech, misinformation, personal attacks and other conduct capable of undermining the electoral process.
The accord was signed in Abuja at a ceremony organised by the National Peace Committee in partnership with The Kukah Centre, barely 24 hours before the statutory commencement of public campaigns and rallies for the elections.
2. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has said its preliminary investigation into Nigeria’s cement industry suggests possible manipulation of cement prices, following widespread complaints over the soaring cost of the commodity despite the country’s large production capacity and abundant limestone deposits. It has also opened an investigation into possible price manipulation in Nigeria’s cement industry after a three-month inquiry raised concerns that prevailing market conditions may not fully explain the cost of the building material.
3. Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate demolition of houses built on waterways in Maitama and other flood-prone parts of Abuja, warning that senators and other influential property owners will not be spared. Wike gave the directive on Tuesday during an inspection of areas affected by recent flooding in the capital.
4. The three tiers of government have shared N3.007 trillion in revenue for July 2026. The revenue was shared at the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting held yesterday on the sidelines of the ongoing National Council on the Federation and Economic Development (NACOFED) in Owerri, Imo State.
5. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has dismantled an international cocaine-trafficking cartel that allegedly used Nigeria as a transit hub for moving illicit drugs to the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe and Asia. The agency also arrested the alleged Nigerian arrowhead of the syndicate, a self-styled luxury goods dealer and social media influencer, Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known online as ‘KC Luxury’, as he attempted to flee the country.
6. Suspected Boko Haram insurgents on Monday night attacked Gaya community in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing a police inspector and seven civilians. The Chairman of Hong Local Government Council, Aliyu Sa’ad, confirmed the attack on Tuesday.
7. Panic broke out at the Federal Secretariat Complex in Awka, Anambra State on Tuesday after a fire gutted part of a building housing the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria and an adjoining store occupied by a pharmaceutical company. The fire, which reportedly started around 3 pm, destroyed office equipment and documents before it was brought under control.
8. The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals have commended the Nigerian Army for its cooperation in the fight against illegal mining following the arrest and handover of 18 suspected illegal miners in Niger State. The suspects were apprehended at an illegal mining site in Izom, Gurara Local Government Area of the state, by troops of the 102 Guard Battalion during a routine operation
9. President Bola Tinubu had a closed-door meeting with the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja. Journalists observed Akpabio’s official S-Class Mercedes-Benz sedan pull up at the forecourt of the President’s office at exactly 6:12 pm on Tuesday. The reason for the closed-door meeting is yet to be ascertained.
10. Presidential candidates and national chairmen of major political parties on Tuesday signed the first National Peace Accord ahead of the 2027 general elections in Abuja. The accord was signed on behalf of President Bola Tinubu by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, alongside the All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.
