1. The Federal Government has barred Ministries, Departments and Agencies from awarding contracts or entering into any financial commitments without first securing the required budgetary approval and cash backing, in a move aimed at tightening fiscal discipline and enforcing compliance with procurement laws.
The directive was contained in a Federal Treasury Circular dated July 31, 2026, and signed by the Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr Shamseldeen Ogunjimi.

4. Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Sunday visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State, alongside former Osun State governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and former Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi.

5. Anambra State security outfit, Agunechemba Security Squad, says it has dismantled suspected gunmen’s camps in Orumba North and Orumba South Local Government Areas, recovering a cache of arms, including two General Purpose Machine Guns and locally made rocket launchers. In a statement issued on Sunday, the Publicity Secretary of Agunechemba, Mr Nweke Nweke, said the locally made rocket launchers had been handed over to the Nigerian Army.
6. An intelligence-led operation by the Department of State Services (DSS), has resulted in the death of over 60 suspected bandits in Bakori Local Government Area (LGA) of the state. Security sources disclosed that one notorious bandit kingpin, Idi Abasu Aiki, believed to be responsible for several cases of attacks by bandits in the Northwest states of Katsina and Zamfara States, was among those neutralized during the operation

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says its operatives intercepted consignments of cocaine concealed in a local mortar and the false bottom of a backpack meant for shipment to China and Italy through a Lagos logistics company. This is just as the agency said it arrested four suspects in multiple operations across the country.

The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Sunday, welcomed a group of defectors from the All Progressives Congress in Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State into NDC.
