It also faulted the Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, for publicly disclosing details of the closed-door meeting, describing his comments as inappropriate and a breach of the confidentiality expected of such high-level engagements

Nigerians and other African applicants seeking United States business and tourist visas will now be required to deposit up to $20,000 as a condition for entry, under a new policy aimed at curbing visa overstays. The measure, which comes into force on Monday, August 3, 2026, formalises a Visa Bond Programme introduced on a pilot basis in August 2025. US authorities said the decision followed concerns over increasing cases of visitors remaining in the country beyond their authorised stay, as well as gaps in data sharing and identity verification by some countries

He said Fubara’s actions clearly showed that he undermined those who supported him and the structure that brought him to power.

The revelation is coming on the heels of Obasanjo’s statement that he regretted picking Atiku as his vice.

7. Fire, on Saturday, engulfed the headquarters of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria in Abuja. The blaze reportedly started on the fourth floor of the building, located opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria headquarters, and spread across the upper section of the structure.
8. The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a viral video showing the alleged assault of a gold seller by some policemen in the Festac area of Lagos. The command disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X handle on Saturday, saying the officers captured in the video had been identified as personnel attached to Area E Command.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has dismissed claims that 176 residents were abducted during the deadly terrorist attack on Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state. The CP stressed that although security agencies acknowledged that several residents were taken away by the attackers, there was no official confirmation that the number of abductees was 176.

Troops of 34 Artillery Brigade, operating under Operation UDOKA through ongoing Operation EASTERN SANITY II, have arrested key members of a notorious criminal syndicate responsible for the ambush of troops on May 4. This is contained in a statement by the acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 82 Division Nigerian Army, Lt.-Col. Olabisi Ayeni, on Saturday in Enugu. Ayeni said that the unfortunate ambush claimed the life of one soldier and left another wounded.
