1. The House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the activities of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) yesterday said it had uncovered at least 29 allegedly forged official documents linked to the fake agency and its self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi Mathew.
Committee Chairman Yusuf Gagdi disclosed this during the appearance of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, before the panel.
2. The New Nigeria People’s Party has raised concerns over an alleged attempt by former leaders to collapse its structure in support of a Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket in the Nigeria Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general election. In a swift reaction, the NDC leadership denied the allegation, saying the opposition was delusional for coming up with such an allegation.

The Federal Government on Monday strongly condemned the recurring xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa, urging Pretoria to take urgent and concrete steps to end the violence. The condemnation comes as President Bola Tinubu declined to personally receive a special envoy from South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
4. The Naira on Monday depreciated to N1,407 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,400 per dollar last week Friday. Similarly, the naira depreciated to N1,364 per dollar in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, NFEM.
5. A former international footballer, Segun Hunkarin, and a fugitive drug kingpin, Ntoruka Chinedu, have been sentenced to a combined 24 years’ imprisonment by the Federal High Court in Lagos for importing cocaine into Nigeria. Justice Musa Kakaki handed down the sentences after finding the duo guilty of offences relating to the unlawful importation of 7.05 kilograms of cocaine.
6. Family members have launched a fundraising campaign to repatriate the remains of a Nigerian woman, Christiana Nwosu, who reportedly died of cardiac arrest while visiting the United Kingdom. PUNCH Metro learnt this on Monday from a GoFundMe appeal signed by Chijioke Metuka on behalf of the Nwosu family. According to Metuka, Nwosu died on July 19, 2026, leaving her children and loved ones devastated by the sudden loss.
7. The House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee probing the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council has come under growing pressure to widen its investigation by inviting Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, even as lawmakers ordered the Inspector-General of Police to produce the alleged promoter of the non-existent agency, Adeniyi Adeyemi, for questioning on Wednesday.
8. Bori, the headquarters of Khana Local Government Area in Rivers State, has been thrown into panic after gunmen shot and killed a former Chief Security Officer of the council identified as Letam Kine on Sunday evening. It was learnt on Monday that the incident occurred along Polytechnic Road in Bori, as some alleged that the assailants may have been suspected cultists.

Two persons have been confirmed dead, while three others were rescued after a three-storey hostel building, known as Elite Five Star Lodge, collapsed in Amaokpala, near the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The building, which had about 60 rooms, caved in on Sunday night, throwing residents and passers-by into panic as an unknown number of occupants, mostly students, were trapped beneath the rubble for hours before emergency responders arrived.
10. The African Democratic Congress in Rivers State and the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Charles Wobodo, are at loggerheads over the council’s recent ban on public gatherings, with the opposition party alleging that the directive is aimed at intimidating political opponents ahead of the 2027 general elections. The development comes amid growing security concerns in parts of Ikwerre LG, where recent incidents of killings, kidnappings and attacks on residents have heightened tension.
