1. The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed the final forfeiture of seven landed properties, $2.045 million and share certificates linked to a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to the Federal Government.
In a unanimous judgment delivered by a five-member panel led by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, the apex court set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal and restored the earlier decision of the Federal High Court in Lagos, which had held that the assets were reasonably suspected to have been acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities.
2. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested four suspects over alleged mob killing of a 21-year-old, Emmanuel Effiong. The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, confirmed this in a statement in Uyo on Friday. According to her, the suspects murdered the victim and secretly buried his body in a shallow grave.
3. The Federal Government has filed a 10-count charge against three men – Abdulrazak Umar a.k.a. Abu Khalifa/Abu Khalid, Yunusa Musa a.k.a. Yunusa bin Musa, and Shamsu Adamu Sani a.k.a. Abu Itisar – arrested in connection with the recent abduction of pupils and teachers of schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The charge was filed on Friday by the Department of State Services before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
4. Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued nine victims who escaped from their abductors, recovered 56 rustled livestock and arrested a suspected terrorist during separate intelligence-led operations in Katsina State. The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
5. Tanko Habila, father of the late Miss Mary Habila, the nurse who died at the residence of the Minister of Works, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, IGP, demanding the release of her remains for burial. Habila, who was accompanied by his wife, other family members and their lawyers, addressed the press shortly after submitting the petition at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Friday.
6. The Federal Government has renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in honour of President Bola Tinubu, saying the landmark infrastructure project was inspired by a vision he conceived while serving as governor of Lagos State nearly three decades ago. Minister of Works Dave Umahi announced this during a media briefing in Abuja, describing the renaming as recognition of Tinubu’s role in initiating the idea behind the 750-kilometre highway.
7. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the Presidential Executive Order on Virtual Assets Coordination, 2026, establishing a new inter-agency framework to harmonise the regulation of virtual assets and strengthen oversight of Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital economy.

The Kabiru Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has vowed to appeal the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which struck out a suit seeking recognition of its leadership. The faction said although it respected the court’s decision, it believed the judgment was inconsistent with existing decisions of the appellate and Supreme courts.
10. The African Democratic Congress has called on the National Assembly to invoke constitutional provisions to determine whether President Bola Tinubu remains fit to discharge the duties of his office, alleging that the president has lost control of his government. The opposition party also alleged that unelected interests may be exercising presidential powers, unknown to the man elected by Nigerians to preside over the affairs of the nation.
