1. At least 792 persons lost their lives in 882 security incidents across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in June 2026, with the military killing 274 insurgents, according to the latest report by SARI Global, a risk intelligence and security analysis firm that specialises in providing operational data, climate intelligence, and crisis management support for organisations working in the world’s most volatile environments.

This is as the report staed that the Islamic State West Africa Province launched a coordinated strategy in the Monguno axis of northern Borno that blocked access to humanitarian aid from reaching hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons.

5. Rescued pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State may reunite with their families today (Monday) following their anticipated formal handover by the military to the Oyo State Government after 48 hours of medical observation. The victims, who regained their freedom on Friday after spending 56 days in captivity, have been receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support at the Headquarters of the 2 Division Nigerian Army Medical Services, Odogbo Barracks, Ibadan.


6. Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised an ISWAP cameraman and recovered video recordings indicating the presence of three foreign terrorist facilitators, including a Palestinian identified as the group’s trainer and a Moroccan serving as a medical doctor for the insurgents. The Acting Military Information Officer, Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

7. The police will arraign Adeniyi Adeyemi, self-acclaimed Director-General, DG of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC at the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Tuesday. In a fresh court document marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, Adeyemi and two others were charged with eight counts of forgery, impersonation, among others.

8. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 38-year-old South African woman, Will Ann, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for allegedly attempting to smuggle 5.75 kilograms of heroin into Nigeria while travelling with her three-year-old son. According to the agency, the suspect was arrested on Monday, July 6, 2026, during the inward clearance of passengers aboard Qatar Airways flight QR1433 from Doha.

9. The All Progressives Congress has said the failure of opposition political parties to meet the Independent National Electoral Commission deadline for the submission of candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections reflects what it described as their lack of preparedness for the polls. In a statement on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, APC said the opposition lacks the ability to effectively manage its internal processes.

10. Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, says he has initiated legal action against individuals spreading what he described as false reports about a nurse’s death. Umahi spoke on Sunday while inspecting work along the Ebonyi section of the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Nasarawa–Abuja Super Highway. Social media claims alleged secrecy surrounding the death of nurse, Mary Habila, inside Umahi’s compound in his hometown.
