1. More than 76 ISWAP terrorists have abandoned their enclaves and surrendered to troops within the North-East theatre of operations as part of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), and continued operational successes.
The North East geopolitical zone comprises six states: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe. In a statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, revealed that among those who surrendered were key members of the terrorist network, due to relentless military pressure
2. Katsina State Government said it cannot comment on the reported arrest of suspected bandit leaders at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina, after they returned from the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage. In an interview on weekend, the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa, said the matter falls entirely within the jurisdiction of federal security agencies.
3. The National Assembly is set to transmit the Constitution Alteration Bill seeking the establishment of state police to the 36 state Houses of Assembly this week, marking the next critical stage of one of Nigeria’s most far-reaching security reforms. The development comes days after the Senate passed the landmark constitutional amendment, with lawmakers now racing to secure the approval of at least 24 state legislatures before the bill can be transmitted.
4. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, has questioned the slow pace of reductions in petrol prices across Nigeria despite a sharp decline in global crude oil prices. It warned that operators in the downstream sector could face regulatory scrutiny if evidence of consumer exploitation is established.
5. The Nigerian Navy has disrupted the movement of illegally refined petroleum products in Rivers State through an intelligence-led operation conducted under Operation DELTA SENTINEL. The Director of Naval Information, Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho said the operation was carried out by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship SOROH deployed to the Orashi Forest area of Okolomade Community in Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers.
6. The Edo State Police Command has arrested two men for allegedly staging a fake kidnap in a bid to extort N4 million from the family of one of the suspects. The suspects, identified as Lucky Alabi, 48, and Taiye Enahoro, 37, both of Uneme Akpama Community, were arrested by operatives of the Igarra Division following what the police described as “intelligence-led investigations.”
7. Ogun State Police Command has arrested seven suspected criminals for offences ranging from armed robbery and “one-chance” robbery to cultism, unlawful possession of firearms and obtaining money by false pretences. The command also recovered a stolen Toyota Venza, three locally made firearms, a Toyota Camry allegedly used by a one-chance robbery syndicate, 17 stolen mobile phones, an HP EliteBook laptop and N1.1m traced to an alleged travel scam.
8. The United Kingdom rejected at least 1,344,595 Nigerian visa applications between 2005 and the first quarter of 2026, official Home Office data obtained by The PUNCH shows. The rejection rate places Nigeria second globally in total visa refusals, behind only India and ahead of Pakistan and China, among others, as Nigerians alone accounted for 44.4 per cent of all UK visa rejections across Africa in the period.
9. The All Progressives Congress has distanced itself from a purported list circulating online claiming to contain the names of successful candidates from its recently concluded primary elections. In a public notice issued on Sunday, the party said it had not released any official list of winners from the primaries and warned members and the general public against relying on unauthorised publications.
10. The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a ban on commercial motorcycles and tricycles on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. The restriction, which takes effect this week, was announced in a statement on Sunday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mr Olufemi Dare.
