1. The military has commenced efforts to secure the release of former Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Rabe Abubakar (retd.), and his wife, who were abducted by gunmen in Katsina State.

A top military source confirmed the development to our correspondent on Saturday, saying efforts were underway to rescue the retired senior officer and his wife. “We have received the sad news of his abduction and that of his wife, and we will act accordingly to ensure he and his wife are rescued,” the source said.

2. The Labour Party(LP) has formally presented Dr. Chibuzo Okereke as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, following what the party described as a broad-based consensus among its members and stakeholders. The announcement was made in Abuja on Friday, May 30, 2026, with party leaders expressing confidence in Okereke’s capacity to provide the visionary leadership needed to address Nigeria’s governance and development challenges


3. Nigerian governors have opened discussions on raising the national minimum wage to N100,000. This signals a fresh effort to cushion the impact of rising inflation and worsening economic pressures on workers across the country.

4. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has announced a fresh reduction in the ex-depot prices of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS and Automotive Gas Oil, AGO. In a statement on Saturday, the company said the reduction reinforces its commitment to making refined petroleum products more affordable and supporting economic activities across Nigeria.

5. The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has ratified Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. NDC made the ratification at its national convention held in Abuja on Saturday.

6. Suspected thugs on Saturday disrupted a gathering of the Kabiru Turaki-led factional Interim National Working Committee and other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party at the A-Class Event Centre in Abuja. The incident occurred shortly after the factional leaders had relocated from their initial venue to interact with police personnel deployed to the area.

The Lagos State Government on Saturday commended residents of Alimosho Local Government Area for their level of compliance with the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, describing the area as one of the councils taking the initiative seriously. Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made the observation after monitoring the exercise in the area on Saturday.

The Imo State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a 21-year-old student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Chinedu Chibuzor Christogonus, whose death occurred under suspicious circumstances on Saturday. The deceased, a 100-level Cyber Security student and member of the Man O’ War organisation in FUTO, was allegedly beaten by some members of the group after being accused of stealing N13,500.

9. A Nigerian-born Roman Catholic priest, Anthony Odiong, has been convicted by a jury in Texas, United States, for sexually assaulting women under his spiritual care. Odiong, 57, was found guilty on one count of first-degree sexual assault and two counts of second-degree sexual assault after a trial in Waco, Texas.

10. The husband of abducted Oyo school principal, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, broke down in tears on Saturday as he begged Governor Seyi Makinde to intensify efforts to rescue his wife and other kidnapped victims. The emotional appeal came during Makinde’s visit to Oriire Local Government Area, where relatives of abducted residents gathered to plead for urgent government intervention
