Good morning! Nigerian Newspapers  Headlines: Dangote faces price war as NNPC backs fuel imports

1. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has told the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos that petroleum products from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE are sold at “significantly high and fluctuating market prices”, warning that granting the refinery’s requests could hand it monopoly control of Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.

The national oil company stated this in a counter-affidavit in opposition to Dangote refinery’s originating summons in Suit No: FHC/L/CS/857/2026 before the Federal High Court, Lagos Judicial Division.



2. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has appealed the judgment of a Federal High Court in Abuja, which nullified its revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections. INEC on Monday filed a notice of appeal and a motion for stay of execution of the judgment delivered by Justice Mohammed Umar.

3. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja will today, May 26, 2026, deliver its judgment in a suit seeking the disqualification of a former President, Goodluck Jonathan, from the 2027 presidential race. Justice Peter Lifu will also give a definitive ruling on whether the former president can still take the oath of office after he had done so twice before leaving office in 2015.

The Nigerian military has raised the alarm over possible terror attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP at densely populated locations across the North-East during the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration. The spokesman of the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Lt. Col. Sani Uba, gave the warning in a statement issued to journalists in Maiduguri on Monday.

5. The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking gas) is inching closer to N2,000 per kilogramme in different locations as Muslims prepare for the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Sallah festivities

6. The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, 27th May and Thursday, 28th May 2026 as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Adha. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by Dr Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, on Monday.

7. An Abuja High Court on Monday granted bail to a former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Skye Bank Plc, Tunde Ayeni, in the sum of N200 million over an alleged N15.7 billion fraud suit instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission( EFCC) . Ayeni is facing a 17-count charge bordering on alleged fraud amounting to N15.6 billion. He pleaded not guilty when the charges were read before the court


8. Suspected bandits on Monday launched a coordinated midnight attack on the Yashikira community in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, burning a section of the emir’s palace and abducting three wives and four children of the traditional ruler, Alhaji Umar Seriki. It was gathered that heavily armed men storm the border town in large numbers, firing sporadically into the air before advancing directly toward the palace and nearby police formation.

The Ghana Police Service has arrested eight Nigerians alongside 66 other suspects during a series of intelligence-led anti-narcotics and crime suppression operations in the Upper East Region of the country. It was learnt from a statement on Monday by the GPS that the operations targeted narcotics peddling, violent crimes, and other criminal activities within border communities and identified criminal hotspots.

10. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, said he was not surprised by the withdrawal of Siminalayi Fubara, Rivers State governor, from the All Progressives Congress,  governorship primary election. Speaking on Monday after inspecting infrastructural projects in Abuja, Wike said Kingsley Chinda, the APC candidate has the legislative and executive experience to govern the south-south state.
