1. Chukwuemeka Ojukwu held discussions with fellow army officers to resolve the political face-off between Nnamdi Azikiwe and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa “in favour Azikiwe” in 1964, Yakubu Gowon, former head of state, has revealed in his memoir.
The book, ‘My Life of Duty and Allegiance’, published by the Havilah Group, was launched in Abuja on Tuesday.

Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, the eldest son of the immediate past All Progressives Congress, APC national Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Saturday obtained the nomination form to contest for the House of Representatives ticket under the platform of the National Democratic Congress, NDC. Abdulaziz is contesting for Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency in the state.

Ahead of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election, youth leaders across the 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State have declared support for former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, to fly the party’s 2027 presidential ticket. The youth leaders also strongly rejected what they described as an “unfortunate statement” made on Friday by the Enugu State Chairman of the party, who claimed that ADC members in the state were backing the presidential ambition of Atiku Abubakar

Former governor of Anambra State and presidential aspirant under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has pushed back against suggestions that he is avoiding former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Obi made the remarks on Friday in Cape Town, South Africa, on the sidelines of the Spier Dialogue 2026, a pan-African governance forum.
6. The African Democratic Congress has formally announced Senator Ireti Heebah Kingibe as the party’s flag bearer for the Federal Capital Territory senatorial race on Saturday. The exercise, which produced clear outcomes across senatorial and House of Representatives contests, saw Kingibe secure a commanding total of 17,535 votes, far ahead of her sole opponent, Mubarak Tijjani, who polled 806 votes.

A 30-year-old private school teacher, Nathaniel Baiyegun, has been arrested for allegedly killing a 16-year-old West African Senior School Certificate Examination candidate identified as Florence, said to be his former student. It was learnt from a police source on Friday that the suspect allegedly lured the teenager to the scene of her death under the guise of attending an academic coaching class.

The Nigeria Immigration Service has allayed the fears that the country’s land borders can serve as unchecked entry points for the Ebola virus currently ravaging the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. The NIS insisted that every border crossing in Nigeria was manned and that the service had deployed digital surveillance infrastructure to monitor routes that personnel alone could not cover.

A 33 years old Nigerian-American man, Adepoju Salako, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for fraudulently attempting to steal over $22,000 from Alaska’s oil wealth dividend programme by hijacking the online accounts of seven state residents. According to a press release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Alaska on Friday, Salako pleaded guilty to seven counts of wire fraud before a federal court in Anchorage, Alaska, on Tuesday.
10. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday described the All Progressives Congress, APC, primaries nationwide as a strong demonstration of internal democracy. President Tinubu stated this after he participated in the APC presidential primary at his Ikoyi-Obalende Ward L2 in Lagos, noting that the exercise had further deepened the democratic process.
