1. Ahead of Thursday’s governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress, resistance to consensus arrangements has intensified in at least 10 states, as several aspirants rejected pressure to step down and insisted on testing their popularity at the polls.

The growing pushback comes despite efforts by party leaders and governors in many states to streamline the primaries through endorsements, negotiations, and consensus agreements aimed at avoiding divisive contests ahead of the 2027 general elections.

2. The Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, has deployed more detectives from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, to collaborate with the joint security team as part of intensified efforts to secure the release of the abducted teachers and students of three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
An informed police source told The PUNCH in Ibadan on Tuesday that the deployment was aimed at rescuing the victims unhurt.

3. The Federal Government, on Tuesday, disclosed that it will not close the Eko Bridge in Lagos State, as it had earlier planned. The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, made the disclosure during an inspection of the bridge.

4. The Naira on Tuesday appreciated to N1,385 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,395 per dollar on Monday. But the local currency depreciated to N1,373.65 per dollar in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market,  NFEM .

5. Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, faction led by Kabiru Turaki, SAN, yesterday granted former President Goodluck Jonathan a waiver from its presidential screening process, ahead of the 2027 election, as party officials confirmed he was currently the party’s only presidential aspirant. The party said there was no need to screen Jonathan, given the positions he had previously held.

6. Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Gombe State, has pulled out of the race to govern the state under the ruling party. The former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, who rejected the consensus arrangement that led to the choice of Jamilu Gwamna, had earlier vowed to challenge what he described as injustice in the party.

7. More aspirants vying for Senate tickets of the All Progressives Congress have rejected the outcome of the primaries in their various constituencies, vowing to take their grievances to the national secretariat of the party for resolution. More than 10 aspirants across the states have publicly rejected the result of the primaries insisting that the processes were marred by irregularities.

8. Details have emerged on how operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission tracked and arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, in Kaduna State after weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering. The EFCC also arrested two persons alleged to have harboured the former minister while he was on the run. Mamman was convicted on 12 counts of money laundering and fraud amounting to N33.8bn linked to the diversion of funds from the Mambilla and Zungeru hydropower projects



9.Vice-President Kashim Shettima said on Tuesday that some people attempted to create bad blood between him and President Bola Tinubu three months after their inauguration, warning his principal to stop wearing traditional attire he gave him during the 2023 campaign. Shettima said those behind the plot claim that the garments were laced charms to kill the president

10. The Police Command in Akwa Ibom says it rescued two women from an irate mob, who stripped, brutally assaulted, and attempted to subject them to unlawful execution. The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Timfom John, disclosed this in a statement in Uyo on Tuesday. John said the command received a distress call from a commissioner in the state, who witnessed the incident on his way to the office.
