1. Condemnations have continued to trail Friday’s bandits’ attack on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where about 30 students and teachers were kidnapped, while two persons were killed.

The attack, which occurred on May 16, saw armed bandits storm the community and abduct staff, students, and pupils from three schools, Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School. Reactions to the incident particularly grew from condemnations to outrage as a viral video on Monday showed one of the teachers held hostage being beheaded by the abductors.

2. Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has closed the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for its 2027 presidential ticket amid indications that only 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, bought the forms. The party, however, extended by one week the deadline for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for other elective positions.

Governor Abba Yusuf of ‎Kano State has tackled Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over “frequent attacks” against him, saying his silence should not be misinterpreted as fear. ‎Addressing party supporters during the official affirmation of Sulaiman Kawu Sumaila as the All Progressives Congress, APC senatorial candidate for Kano South on Monday, Yusuf said he would soon start ‘talking’ if pushed to the wall.

4. The United States Africa Command, AFRICOM, has confirmed additional airstrikes against the Islamic State’s West Africa Province, ISWAP fighters in the Northeast. In a statement on its official X handle, the combatant command said U.S. and Nigerian forces carried out further strikes on ISWAP targets on Sunday.

The build-up to the 2027 general elections took a dramatic turn on Monday as the All Progressives Congress was plunged into a wave of internal realignments, high-profile defeats, and consensus manoeuvres during its senatorial primaries held across the country. The exercise produced one of the most striking outcomes in recent party history, with several political heavyweights — including former governors and serving power brokers — losing out, while a new set of influential figures secured the party’s senatorial tickets amid a mix of contested primaries, consensus arrangements, and disputed clearances

6. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja yesterday granted N100 million bail to the detained immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, who is facing trial over the alleged unlawful interception of the phone communications of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. But his family raised the alarm that the Department of State Services, DSS, allegedly took him into custody. 

7. Former Minister of Transportation and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed confidence in his chances of securing the African Democratic Congress presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 election, saying former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may no longer be electorally viable. Speaking during an interview on Trust TV on Monday night, Amaechi said that although Atiku had consistently won party primaries, he had failed to convert them into presidential victories

8. No fewer than four Nigerians have been arrested in India over alleged fraud and impersonation offences. It was gathered from separate reports by the Times of India on Monday that three suspects identified as Chinedu, Sunday and Jules were arrested by the Gurugram police over alleged social media fraud involving the impersonation of women to deceive victims.

9. Senator Shehu Sani has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, primary election for the Kaduna Central Senatorial District. Sani defeated former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Zailani, and another aspirant, Shettima, in the APC senatorial primary conducted on Monday.

10. Teachers in some public schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Monday staged a peaceful protest, calling on the government and security agencies to ensure the safe release of their abducted colleagues and students. The protesters, who converged in the early hours of Monday, carried placards and chanted solidarity songs while urging security agencies and the state government to intensify rescue efforts.
