1. The senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has said that divisions among opposition political leaders will make it easy for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to retain power in the 2027 general elections.

2. The President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has said the group rejected requests by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to increase its 7.25 per cent stake in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. Dangote stated this in an interview with the Chief Executive Officer of the Norwegian Sovereign Wealth Fund, Nicolai Tangen. The interview was monitored by one of our correspondents on Wednesday

3. The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has dismissed reports alleging that civilians were killed during a recent military air strike on Tumfa market in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The military insisted that there is no credible evidence to support claims of civilian casualties arising from the operation carried out on Sunday.

4. The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday sentenced the former Minister of Power, Mr Saleh Mamman, to 75 years imprisonment in absentia over N33.8 billion money laundering offences. Justice James Omotosho, who convicted Mamman in all the 12 counts preferred against him by the EFCC, ordered that the sentence shall run consecutively and not concurrently.

5. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed insinuations following his recent visit to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, stating that he does not practise “politics of enmity”. ​Speaking with newsmen during a project inspection on Wednesday, Wike clarified that his interaction with the APC chairman was a matter of personal association and professional courtesy rather than a formal political meeting.

6. Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have rescued six kidnapped women and children including a three-month-old baby during separate operations across the North-East. The troops also arrested three suspected terrorist associates during clearance operations on May 12, a statement by spokesman, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col Sani Uba, said Wednesday.

7. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday arrived in Kigali, Rwanda, ahead of the 13th edition of the Africa CEO Forum, which begins on Thursday. President Tinubu was received at the Presidential Wing of the Kigali International Airport by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu and Rwanda’s Minister of Defence, Juvenal Marizamunda.

8. Ondo State Police Command on Wednesday said it arrested 24 suspected cultists during an initiation ceremony in Ile-Oluji, headquarters of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of the state. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday. According to him, the suspects, all alleged members of the Aiye confraternity, were arrested on Sunday during the initiation of new members.

9. Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has disqualified 36 aspirants seeking to contest the party’s House of Assembly primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections. The screening committee, which sat on May 10 and 11 at the party secretariat in Asaba, cleared 46 aspirants while screening out 36 others over alleged irregularities ranging from bribery attempts to document inconsistencies and zoning violations.

10. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested and detained the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Dr Mustapha Abdullahi. An EFCC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the D-G, who was arrested on Wednesday in Abuja, was being held over allegations of money laundering.
