Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers state has denied speculations linking him to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that he remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor spoke on Wednesday during a public engagement in Port Harcourt amid growing rumours of an imminent defection from the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The speculations followed concerns over Fubara’s political future within the APC and intensified after he was absent from the party’s screening exercise for incumbent governors last Saturday.
Francis Nwifuru, governor of Ebonyi state, and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara state, were also absent from the exercise.
The development sparked suggestions on social media that Fubara could be considering a move to the NDC.
However, Nentawe Yilwatda, national chairman of the APC, explained that the governors missed the screening because of official engagements in their respective states.
Addressing the rumours, Fubara urged Nigerians not to rely on social media narratives and personal interpretations to misrepresent his political position.
“I know that there’s been a lot of drama in the media, one story and another,” the governor said.
“I’m a member of the Progressive Congress and nothing has changed. People should stop using whatever situation that they pick up from social media or their own interpretation of any situation to present me wrongly.
“I have not gone anywhere, I’m still a member of the Progressive Congress and I remain a member.
“Whatever happens, what is most important is supporting the overall interests of the party.”
Fubara’s remarks come amid increased political realignments and consultations across parties ahead of the 2027 general election.
