The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as a serial “contestant and loser”.
The minister was reacting to Abubakar’s recent remarks on the state of the nation and his presidential ambition.
Atiku Abubakar, while speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, said the 2027 general election will be his last shot at the presidency.
Abubakar has run for the number one office six times, but has been on the ballot as a presidential candidate on three occasions — 2007, 2019, and 2023.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing him as the worst leader in the nation’s history.
But speaking in Abuja on Thursday, Wike said Abubakar was not honest about his assessment of the Tinubu government.
“Atiku is a serial failure. He is a serial contestant and loser, and I am sure that in 2031, he will still contest,” Wike said.
“Nigerians would laugh at anyone making such a claim that nothing positive has been achieved. Let him compare the FCT today with what it was during his time as vice-president. Can he honestly say the two are the same?”
Wike said Tinubu’s administration would not be distracted by “political attacks”, adding that governance must continue regardless of the election season.
