1. The embattled National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, former Senate President David Mark, former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, the ADC National Secretary and other party leaders have declared that there would be no easy victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the party’s national convention themed, ‘So That Nigeria May Work,’ held on Tuesday in Abuja, the ADC leaders strongly criticised the Tinubu-led administration over the worsening insecurity and economic hardship in the country, insisting that Nigerians were facing unprecedented levels of suffering.
2. The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and the widow of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Florence, have denied purportedly inducing members of the state House of Assembly, through its Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, to begin an impeachment process against Governor Seyi Makinde. Ogundoyin became the centre of the alleged plot on Tuesday morning after members of the state House of Assembly issued individual statements to absolve themselves of any knowledge of discussions between the Speaker and both the Olubadan and Ajimobi’s wife.
3. Senate President Godswill Akpabio has attributed the rising insecurity in the country to the forthcoming election, saying there will be a change after the elections. Speaking at the official launch of the Nigerian Revenue Service Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, on Tuesday, Akpabio said President Bola Tinubu is performing so well and those opposed to him do not know what to do than to sponsor insecurity.
4. The African Democratic Congress yesterday expelled the party’s former Deputy National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, and a member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide. The decision was announced at the national convention of the party. Others expelled by the party are; Kenneth Ehiator, (Abia State chairman of the party who identified with Dumebi Kachikwu, Stella Chukwu and Elias Adiukwu.
5. A Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the corruption case instituted against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. Justice Rilwanu Aikawa delivered the ruling on Tuesday after adjourning the matter from April 1 to April 14, 2026, to consider arguments from both the prosecution and defence.
6. Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has ordered security agencies to immediately launch coordinated operations to flush out suspected armed herdsmen camps in forests across the state following renewed deadly attacks on rural communities. The directive affects forested areas in Apa, Otukpo, Gwer-West Local Government Areas, LGAs, and other identified locations believed to be serving as operational bases for the attackers.
7. The Nigeria Police Force has deployed a rapid response team across examination centres nationwide ahead of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. This is as the police dismissed circulating rumours about threats to candidates’ safety as unfounded.
8. The Supreme Court has fixed April 22 for the hearing of the appeal arising from the protracted leadership crisis rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party. In the proceedings on Tuesday, a five-member panel of the apex court led by Justice Mohammed Garba granted accelerated hearing in the matters and issued strict timelines for the filing and exchange of processes.
9. Federal Government has defended the April 11 airstrike on the Jilli axis in Gubio Local Council of Borno State, saying the operation was carefully planned to weaken terrorists’ logistics and disrupt their movement. It assured families of military and police personnel killed in a recent attack in Shanga Local Council of Kebbi State that it will not abandon them.
10. Troops of 82 Division, Nigerian Army, under Operation UDO KA, uncovered an improvised explosive device and recovered ransom cash during operations in Enugu State. This is contained in an operational report released on Tuesday in Abuja. The report said troops of 82 Division Garrison, with 103 Battalion and the Air Component, conducted clearance operations in Ajali Forest, Ezeagu Local Government Area.
