1. The leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress shows no sign of abating as internal wrangling and legal hurdles have stalled the state congresses scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026.
The crisis, which has since fragmented the party into three camps led by former Senate President David Mark, Nafiu Gombe and a bloc spearheaded by some state ADC chairmen, led to the recent de-recognition of the Mark-led National Working Committee by the Independent National Electoral Commission. While some states have announced the suspension of their congresses, a few states have vowed to proceed with the election ahead of the party’s convention.

British border officials have seized around five tonnes of cocaine, with a street value of some £400 million ($540 million), at one of London’s main port terminals, the government said on Saturday. The drugs were uncovered in a series of operations at London Gateway port in February and March, with the largest single haul, of almost 2,800 packets hidden in a banana shipment, weighing in at around three tonnes.
5. The All Progressives Congress has said members aspiring to contest its 2027 presidential primary will pay N30m and N70m for the expression of interest and nomination forms, respectively. Also, governorship aspirants are to pay N10m for the expression of interest form and N40m for the nomination form as the country prepares for the general election next year.

An Ogun State governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, on Saturday, debunked reports that she is only in the gubernatorial race to use it to bargain for either the slot of deputy governor or ministerial appointment. Obasanjo said such a report is nothing but cheap lies and propaganda insisting that she is in the race to succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun in 2027.
7. The Federal Government has ordered the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS to immediately withdraw or deactivate the passports of individuals who have renounced Nigerian citizenship. The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, gave the directive.
8. Residents of Imafon, Igushin and Ilado communities in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State yesterday staged a protest over the continuous attacks and killings allegedly carried out by armed bandits.
The aggrieved protesters blocked the popular Shoprite Roundabout at Alagbaka, a stone’s throw from Governor’s Office, expressing outrage over the continued bloodshed in their communities.
9. The Police Command in Imo has launched a manhunt for the killers of Eze Paulinus Ekwueme, the traditional ruler of Ochia Autonomous Community, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state. The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday.
