1. Military and paramilitary agencies received a total of N2.3tn in special intervention funding between October 2023 and September 2025, according to the latest Federation Account Allocation Committee documents obtained by The PUNCH on Monday.
The ledger shows the money was released in 23 equal tranches of N100bn each under the “Ledger of Special Intervention Programme for Nigerian Military February, 2026.”
2. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has resigned from his position to pursue his governorship ambition in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general elections. Tuggar, a member of the All Progressives Congress, reportedly submitted his resignation letter on Monday, barely 24 hours before the deadline set by the presidency.
3. United States congressman, Riley Moore, warned yesterday that continued attacks on Christians in Nigeria could strain diplomatic relations with the US, following reports of a deadly Palm Sunday killings in Jos, Plateau State, and Kaduna State. While 27 were killed at Rukuba community in Plateau, 13 wedding guests were mowed down by the attackers in Kaduna on Sunday.
4. The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, took a new twist yesterday as the Federal High Court in Abuja barred the Kabiru Turaki-led faction from accessing the party’s national secretariat. The court, in the judgment delivered by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, also nullified the convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November 2025, through which the Turaki-led national executives emerged.
5. The Naira on Monday depreciated to N1,415 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,405 per dollar last Friday. Similarly, the naira depreciated to N1,386.75 per dollar in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, NFEM.
6. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the timetable for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for school candidates. According to the schedule, the examination will commence on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, and end on Friday, June 19, 2026.
7. Police confirm 14 deaths as gov urges calm
Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the deadly attack on residents of Angwan Rukuba, Gari Ya Waye area of Jos North, Plateau State, by armed men on Palm Sunday, which left many people dead. In a statement yesterday in Abuja, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, lamented that armed men, in their numbers and wearing security uniforms, reportedly moved into a civilian community and opened fire on defenceless and innocent residents.
8. The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a company representative, Kofoworola Motunrayo Kolawole, over an alleged fraud amounting to N993,247,796.70. Kolawole, 37, an indigene of Ondo State, is currently in custody after turning herself in following repeated invitations by the Commission and a subsequent court ordered remand.
9. Violent unrest has broken out in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa following protests against the controversial coronation of an Igbo traditional ruler, with demonstrators torching vehicles and looting shops owned by foreign nationals. The protests were led by members of ActionSA alongside traditional leaders and residents on Monday.
10. The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has reaffirmed its support for the establishment of state police to tackle the region’s security challenges.The forum’s Chairman, who is also the Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, announced this at the forum’s meeting yesterday in Abuja.
