Good morning! Nigerian Newspapers Headlines: Oil price surpasses $100 as fresh Iran attacks offset release of reserves

1. Oil prices soared Thursday, briefly trading above $100, and stock markets extended losses as fresh attacks against Gulf energy targets offset the release of crude reserves by major economies.

Meanwhile, the International Energy Agency said the Mideast war “is creating the largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil market”, a day after its member countries agreed to unlock 400 million barrels of oil from their reserves — their largest release ever.

3. The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted an order permitting the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to access and analyse about 14 sets of electronic devices recovered by its operatives during a search of the Abuja home of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El Rufai. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik issued the order yesterday while ruling on an ex-parte motion filed by the ICPC and moved by its lawyer, Dr. Osuobeni Akponimisingha.


4. A United States Air Force refuelling aircraft has crashed in western Iraq during ongoing military operations linked to the escalating war with Iran, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on Thursday. In a statement, CENTCOM said a KC-135 Stratotanker was lost during Operation Epic Fury, the U.S.-led military campaign targeting Iranian military infrastructure.

5. Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) have killed at least 20 members of Boko Haram/ISWAP sect, including a commander identified as Abu Yusu, the Munzir of Dursula in Goniri Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State. The operation was conducted during a series of raids on Goniri community, which began on the night of Monday, 9 March 2026, and continued into the early hours of Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

6. Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Zamfara State, Dr. Jamil Jibo Magayaki, has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC. Dr. Jamil joined the ruling party after the defection of Governor Dauda Lawal to the APC.


7. The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has said that its leading presidential hopefuls: Peter Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi are working together with a common aim: to stop President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC from returning to power in the 2027 general election.


8. The Federal High Court in Akure, Ondo State, has barred governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa from contesting the 2028 governorship election in the state. According to the court, allowing him to seek another term would violate the constitutional limit of eight years’ tenure.

9. Popular comedian, skit maker and social media influencer, Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggy, has been hospitalised after he was allegedly shot in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State. It was gathered that the incident occurred under the Sango-Ota bridge on Sunday afternoon.


10. Mr Dantawaye Miller and Olohundare Jimoh, FCT and Lagos State commissioners of Police were among the new 13 Assistant Inspector Generals of Police, AIGs announced by the Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday. According to a statement by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs of the PSC, Mr Torty Kalu, the senior officers were promoted following their successful performance in the recently concluded written examinations and oral interviews conducted by the Commission.
