1. Nigerians across major cities are grappling with rising petrol prices after the Dangote Petroleum Refinery increased its gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit to N995 per litre, triggering retail price adjustments nationwide and pushing pump prices above N1,000 per litre in some states.
Findings by Sunday PUNCH showed that petrol now sells between N1,000 and N1,190 per litre depending on location and retail outlet. This has led to rising transport fares as costs of goods and services soar in many parts of the country.

There are strong indications that opposition parties and their aspirants for the 2027 presidential election will settle for a consensus following the release of the revised timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission. 3. Troops of the Nigerian Army have shot dead a suspected kidnapper and rescued 19 abducted victims during a coordinated search-and-rescue operation in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The operation, conducted around Gidan Dogo, followed intelligence reports on the location of suspected terrorists responsible for the recent abduction of residents in the Byazhin area of Bwari.
4. Senate President, Godswill Akpabio on Saturday mocked the opposition in the build up for 2027 general election, bragging that they are confused and will remain so till the polls are concluded with ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) grabbing it all. Akpabio spoke while addressing the audience in Uyo where Governor Umo Eno led Akwa Ibom state received Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
5. The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has formally registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress. Obi, who completed his registration in his hometown of Agulu in Aniocha Local Government Area of Anambra State on Saturday, said he would challenge the newly passed Electoral Act 2026 in court over what he described as attempts to manipulate the outcome of the 2027 general elections
6. Security operatives have rescued 12 kidnapped victims from Efeche Forest in Ette, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, during a coordinated operation carried out on Friday, March 6, 2026. Following their rescue, the victims were taken to a hospital for medical attention and evaluation. Sources said they are currently receiving treatment and are in stable condition.
7. Violence erupted across parts of Oyo State on Saturday as suspected political thugs launched coordinated attacks on local government congresses organised by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, leaving several party members injured and property destroyed.
8. Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised several terrorists, including some of their key leaders, during midnight attacks while the insurgents attempted to overrun four military locations across Borno State. The attacks, which lasted for over five hours between Thursday and Friday, occurred around Konduga, Marte, Jakana and Mainok.
9. Troops of Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have buried soldiers killed during an encounter with Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State. The solemn burial ceremony took place at the Maimalari Military Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri this weekend.
10. Cross River State Government has prohibited Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIO, from conducting roadside operations, limiting their activities to office-based duties. The decision follows protests from commercial transport operators over alleged harassment and steep penalties.
