Good morning! Nigerian Newspapers Headlines: State police can’t wait, Tinubu tells governors

1. To step up the battle against insecurity, the President last night said the time for state police has come.

According to him, all hands must be on deck to secure the country from bandits, terrorists and other forms of criminality.

2. A major outbreak of fire  yesterday afternoon disrupted flight operations at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. It forced foreign airlines, including British Airways, Lufthansa and Emirates, to divert their inbound flights to Abuja and airports in neighbouring countries

3. Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has filed a N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and three others over the alleged unlawful search of his Abuja residence. Also named as respondents in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/345/2026 and filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, are the Chief Magistrate, Federal Capital Territory Magistrates’ Court, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Attorney-General of the Federation.



4. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Bemgha Koughna, has survived an ambush by suspected Lakurawa Terrorists Group (LTG) near Mayama Hill in Kebbi State. The attack occurred while the GOC’s convoy was en route to visit frontline troops deployed in the state.


5. The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Continent 3, has unveiled a free digital skills empowerment programme targeting 8,400 beneficiaries to mark the 84th birthday of its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye. The initiative is scheduled to commence on March 1, 2026, aimed at tackling unemployment and bridging the digital divide, challenges that continue to limit economic opportunities for many young Nigerians



6. Former Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike, for standing by him during a period of political isolation following his removal as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.


7. The United States Department of Homeland Security, DHS, has intensified its immigration enforcement operations, announcing that 19 more people have been added to the list of Nigerians awaiting deportation from the US. The latest update brings the total number of Nigerian nationals processed for removal to 113 in just the last 21 days.


8. Tragedy struck at the busy Badagry Roundabout in Lagos on Monday as a cement-laden truck rammed into a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officer and two commercial motorcyclists, killing them on the spot. It was learnt that the crash occurred at about 9 am on Monday.


9. The African Democratic Congress candidate in the Abuja Municipal Area Council chairmanship election, Dr Moses Paul, on Monday, rejected the outcome of the February 21 poll, alleging widespread irregularities and insisting that the declared results did not reflect the true will of the people. Also on Monday, The Obidient Movement rejected the outcome of Saturday’s AMAC chairmanship election, describing the process as a “brazen assault” on democracy.


10. A ghastly motor accident on Monday evening along the Yola–Mubi Road left four women dead and 26 others injured. The Deputy Chairman of Song Local Government Area, Donan Prambe, said the vehicle was carrying women travelling to the Annual Convention of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria in Demsa Local Government Area.
