8. The Enugu State Government has saved approximately N1.2 billion monthly following a comprehensive verification exercise that eliminated ghost and absentee workers from its payroll. Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, who disclosed this yesterday at the yearly Solemn Assembly of the organised labour, Enugu State council, held at the state secretariat, Enugu, to spiritually usher workers into the New Year, praised the sustained relationship between organised labour and the state government.

9. Tension gripped the agrarian community of Ilu-Abo in Akure North Local Council of Ondo State after heavily armed gunmen abducted a woman and shot a businessman during an attack on Sunday. The victim, identified as Tomilola Oladehinde, was reportedly abducted around 8:00 p.m. by six gunmen at the entrance of her home on Liberty Avenue in the community

10. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed an alleged N4.3 billion foreign exchange fraud case against United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc and four others before the Ikeja Special Offences Court, Lagos. The other defendants are Muyiwa Akinyemi, Amangbo Stephen, Gesos Global Service Limited and Fedat Global Limited. The EFCC alleged that the defendants fraudulently converted and stole N4.3 billion, said to be the property of Energy Shield Petrochemical Limited
