Troops of sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have raided a bandits’ hideout and killed one suspected bandit in the Aterayange area of Ukum LGA in Benue state.
OPWS is a joint military effort targeting banditry and violent crimes in Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba states.
The operation, conducted between Monday night and early Tuesday, was led by M. Babalola of sub-sector 1A, following intelligence on the location of a notorious bandit leader known as Full Fire.
The troops engaged the armed group at around 3:45am. Although the bandit leader escaped, one suspect was reportedly “neutralised” during the encounter.
The troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, five AK-47 magazines, one G3 magazine, a hand grenade, two Baofeng radios, 162 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a motorcycle.
