1. The United States granted citizenship to 34,289 Nigerians between 2020 and 2022, the latest Naturalisations Annual Flow Report from the US Department of Homeland Security shows.

Compiled by the Office of Homeland Security Statistics, the report pulls its numbers from Form N-400—the application form every would-be American files.

 

2. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Rome, Italy, on Saturday to join other world leaders at the solemn mass marking the beginning of the Pontificate of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, the 267th Bishop of Rome and the new leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

 

3. The North West zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday endorsed President Bola Tinubu for his second term bid. Party stakeholders, rising from a meeting in Kaduna, said they were all for the President ahead of the 2027 election.

 

4. Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) Jos, Plateau State said it has successfully neutralised two suspected bandits in its sustained onslaughts against criminals in the state. According to Major Samson Zhakom, spokesman of the OPSH in Jos, “On 15 May 2025, based on a tip-off on the movement of bandits along Nemaledu Village in Gimbi District in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, troops of OPSH laid ambush at the crossing point of bandits in the area.

 

5. The 2023 presidential candidate of New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has denied having any agreement with anyone on plans to defect to All Progressives Congress, APC. Kwankwaso, who was reacting to reports suggesting that he has concluded plans to dump his party, described such reports as falsehoods.

 

6. Rep. Sunday Umeha (LP-Enugu), has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Umeha, who represents Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, announced his defection during a political rally of the APC at Ibagwa Aka Community in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State on Saturday.

 

7. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has debunked speculation that he may challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election if the Peoples Democratic Party zones its presidential ticket to the South. He reaffirmed his loyalty to Tinubu’s administration, declaring that he had no intention of contesting against the man he was serving.

 

8. Anambra State Police Command said its officers recovered a dead body found hanging on a tree in a bush at Amichi, the Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state. In a statement on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the discovery was made following a call through the deceased’s phone by an unidentified person.

 

9. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, as his political son despite their rift. In an published on Saturday, Wike said he cannot fight his son, refuting claims of a feud.

 

10. Independent National Electoral Commission, has published the personal credentials of the candidates of the 16 political parties it uploaded their nomination forms for the Anambra State governorship election after the deadline and automatically shut down of the dedicated portal. The electoral umpire stated that the publication was in line with the provisions of Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and listed as item four on the timetable and schedule of activities for the election.
