1. Twenty-two days after suspending the sale of petroleum products in naira, the Dangote Refinery has resumed sales of its refined petroleum products to its partners and marketers in the local currency, The PUNCH exclusively gathered on Thursday.
The 650,000 barrels facility has also informed marketers and customers of a downward review of its loading cost, reducing its ex-gantry price to N865 per litre—a move that could ease pressure on fuel prices across the country.
2. Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has disclosed that the Federal and Edo State governments have set up a fact-finding committee to look into the circumstances surrounding the March 27 killing of 16 travelling hunters at Uromi. He spoke on Thursday at the Government House, Benin, when he received a high-powered delegation from Kano State, led by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Gwarzo.
3. More than 2000 military personnel have sharpened their skills in various Pakistani military institutions, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Lt.-Gen. Christopher Musa, said on Thursday. The training, according to the CDS, is part of a broader collaboration between the two countries on defense capabilities.
4. Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has reviewed its ex-depot (gantry) loading cost of petrol to N865 per litre. The company informed its customers of the price reduction via a notice on Thursday.
5. The federal government has expressed concern that human traffickers are increasingly using digital platforms to lure and exploit victims. The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), raised the alarm in Abuja on Thursday.
6. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has sanctioned eight power distribution companies (DisCos) for noncompliance with the capping of estimated bills for unmetered customers. NERC said the companies overbilled customers in violation of energy caps set by the regulator for the third quarter of 2024 (July to September).
7. No fewer than three persons have been killed in a renewed overnight attack by armed herdsmen on Mbasombo community in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State. A survivor of the attack and a petty trader in the community, Atumegh Ahemga, disclosed that the armed herdsmen stormed the community shooting sporadically.
8. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday struck out a N50bn fundamental human rights suit filed by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, to challenge his arrest and repatriation from Kenya in 2021. The case, filed against the Federal Government, was struck out due to the repeated absence of the applicant’s (Kanu’s) counsel.
9. The Oyo State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with arson in Aagba community, Surulere Local Government area of the state. Nine houses were burnt in the April 5 incident which also claimed the life of a septuagenarian, Rachael Bamidele. The incident forced occupants to desert the community.
10. Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State on Thursday signed six bills into law, as part of ongoing efforts to advance the state’s development projects. The bills included the Anambra State Development and Investment Corporation Law, 2025 and the Anambra State Electricity Law, 2025.
