Abdullahi Fasasi, principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, venue of the tragic stampede, has reportedly been detained by the Oyo state police command.
It was gathered that Fasasi was invited by the police on Wednesday and has been detained since then.
The school principal’s detention is in connection with the stampede that occurred at the school on Wednesday.
According to reports, no fewer than 32 children lost their lives as a result of the stampede that occurred in Ibadan yesterday.
The incident took place during a children’s carnival organized by Naomi Silekunola, the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, held at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan.
The principal of the school was invited and subsequently detained in connection with the incident.
According to a source, the principal narrated that Fasasi was invited by the police around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday and was subsequently detained upon arrival.
The source added that Fasasi is being held at the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, in the Iyaganku area.
As of the time of filing this report, the principal has not been released.
“The principal of the school, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, has been detained by the police.
“He was invited around 4:00 p.m. yesterday, and he honored the invitation.
“He has been detained since then. He has not been released,” the source said.
