Suspected gunmen have killed about 15 people in the Nibo community in Awka south LGA of the state.
In a statement on Sunday, Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson of the command, said the incident was a “cult-related” attack.
The incident was said to have happened during the Onwa Asaa traditional festival in the community.
Witnesses said a group of suspected cultists attacked some youths in a restaurant in the community.
Ikenga said Nnaghe Itam, the police commissioner in Anambra, has deployed a team of anti-crime operatives to restore peace and order in the area.
He added that Itam urged witnesses to come forward with information to help the police take appropriate actions.
“Preliminary reports of the incidents are still sketchy as the Command calls on the witnesses of this incident to volunteer information that will help to identify the perpetrators for possible arrest,” the statement reads.
“He assured that information sent in this regard shall be treated with the utmost confidentiality. You can call the Command Control Room at or the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).”
