Wike, Fubara feud beyond reconciliation… trust has been breached, says Fayose

Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti, says the feud between Nyesom Wike and Siminalayi Fubara is now “beyond reconciliation”.

Fubara, governor of Rivers; and Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT); have been at loggerheads over control of the political structure of the state.

The conflict has led to a polarisation of the Rivers state assembly and a litany of litigation.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, Fayose described the political crisis in Rivers state as “very unfortunate”.

The ex-governor said his earlier advice to Fubara to “avoid Wike’s trouble” was in good faith.

Fayose had offered the counsel to Fubara at an event, just days after the Rivers governor was declared winner of the election.

“The crisis is very unfortunate. I believe that the matter has crossed the rubicon, the matter has gone far,” Fayose said.

“Even if you want to resolve this matter, how do you put the trust back? So, I would rather want to believe that it is too far for a call for reconciliation.”

Wike handpicked Fubara to succeed him as Rivers governor.

‘TINUBU’S ADMINISTRATION DOING ITS BEST’

Fayose also said the Bola Tinubu administration is doing its best to solve the economic challenges of the country.

The politician added that the damage done to the country’s economy cannot be rectified overnight.

“It has not been so easy. That is the truth for Nigerians. But I think that the government naturally is giving their best,” Fayose said.

“But their best still needs to be upped. If you say they still need time, people will begin to question and say ‘what time do they need’.

“I agree that it is not too easy for Nigerians, but I know that with little time, things could get better. That is all I can say.

“The damage to the economy is long term damage. It is not an overnight repair. Repairs will not come overnight. That is the truth.”
