Haruna Mshelia, the Borno state high court justice, who was abducted in June, has been released.

Daso Nahum, the Borno police spokesperson, said that Mshelia was travelling on June 24 with his wife, driver, and orderly along Biu-Maiduguri road when the incident occurred.

The message announcing his release was posted on a WhatsApp platform of Borno lawyers on Saturday.

“Alhamdulillah, we have just received the news of the release of Justice Haruna Mshelia,” the message reads.

However, only Justice Mshelia regained his freedom, while his wife and driver are still in captivity.

The message urged for continued prayers for their safe return.

Mshelia, who was previously a private lawyer, joined the Borno state judiciary in May 2012.

He was one of two high court judges selected from the state’s private legal practitioners.
